FH purchased my E-ring at Sam's Club and we both purchased our bands last weekend from Kay Jewelers. We were talking to FMIL about our bands and she got all bent out of shape that we purchased from Kay, as she said that she has read several articles about Kay swapping out diamonds for lower quality or smaller diamonds when people send them in for resizing, soldering, etc. I recall seeing an article about this some time back. Has anyone ever had any experiences with this?

I am going to have to send my band in for resizing before the wedding, and after the wedding I am going to be sending both in to have them soldered together and now FMIL has me really nervous. We have received appraisals from Kay on our bands, and I have an appraisal from a local jeweler for my E-ring. I was wondering if I should have our bands appraised by the local jeweler as well, and if that would do anything to protect us in the event that something did happen with any of my diamonds?

Go to a local shop that does re-sizing onsite . Also support a local business rather than a large chain. If you can cancel your Kay's purchase, I would.

I sent mine out to be resized when we bought it and it's still the same. I think bring in the spot light about this issue they would not do it.

Big box jewelers are OUT for me. I use a family owned jewelry store who custom makes all of my pieces. I own several large stone moissanite rings in different cuts from 5 carats and up and I would NEVER trust sending any of them to a Kay, Jareds or Helzburgs. Besides, unless you know someone who deals with raw and uncut diamonds, the stones you are getting from these stores are absolute trash for such a high price along with the shitty customer service....I would never......

We had no issues at Kay's. We got our bands there. Couldn't find one to match my engagement ring the first time we went in. The lady wanted to sell me this setting you put your ring between but there was a gap on both sides, it was too flashy for me, although it was cheaper than what we ended up with.

We ended up leaving and coming back a different day. Showed the man my ring told him what we wanted, had his complete attention he searched until he found the perfect band! It was in a black box under the counter. It was a bit pricey, but it fit like no other.

I got my e-ring at Jared and have never had any issues or poor service. So in regards to some PPs shining negative light on all of the Kay chains it's not ALL of them. It's a beautiful ring/beautiful quality and the customer service has always been on point. Totally trust the Jared we went to.

I used to work at the headquarters 10 years ago. I heard people calling and complaining about the swapping then. I don't know if it has been proven, but I wouldn't put it past them. Just be cautious. I think it was only with the more expensive center stones. They also were accused of using "black diamonds" years ago when that movie came out.
