Army Wife, Navy Sailor, on December 24, 2011 at 9:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

So has anyone ever heard of a wedding having Karaoke?

Went to a wedding where they had Karaoke... It's not my thing but the guests seemed to enjoy it. Not many got up to sing.

Yeah i can see that happening. but i am hoping since we both have fun and crazy families that they will enjoy themselves with it. if not the adults the kids will. but right now i am just throwing ideas out there. still have over 800 days of planning to go.

IMO - that's a bar thing, not a wedding thing. I'm not opposed to it but I just can't see having it a reception, unless it's something really personal to the bride and groom. Or maybe doing it for like an hour or something, but not the whole reception.

I am having Karaoke at my wedding. Not the whole night but more toward the end of the night, (after plenty of liquid singing lessons) and plus that is how I met my FH it was at a Karaoke bar and he sings beautifully. Also alot of my friends sing too so it would definitely be a fun time.

That is a great idea to have it towards the end of the night but we didnt really plan on having a bar since most of the people are older and have medical conditions.

I dont' think that Karaoke replaces a photo booth....

To me, it's too 'bar like'; I could see it at an after party, but not at a wedding...

You all talk about karaoke being a bar thing but um isnt all the booze that most people are having BAR like.... I think karaoke is fine and a fun idea.. My sis did it at hers it was a small reception. They had there first karaoke song instead of first dance.. If you think your family and friends will enjoy it then go it.. They will enjoy it.. I say its a great idea..Im even doing it at my own reception... Not starting out with it but half way through after all the semi-formal stuff then we will let loose and have fun..

Having done the karaoke thing for several years, I don't think it would work at a wedding. To many varying personalities IMO. Even doing it in a bar, the same 5 or 6 people get up to sing (usually with a few drinks on board) and sing songs that are not too good. Keep in mind that in a bar, folks go there because they want to sing... not so much at a wedding.

Yeah, it might work, but don't put all your eggs for entertainment in "the karaoke basket". Now, having said that, I'm betting you don't care what I have to say, but remember me the day after... and say to yourself, "I shoulda listened to that DJ".

I think if I was AT a wedding that did Karaoke, I'd be waiting for it to stop....

Sorry....I meant to add that people who are going to a Karaoke bar do it by choice; at a wedding, it's not that situation. You're there whether you like it or not, listening to Aunt Chris sing "Proud Mary"....

    um.....nope.

As a guest, i'd probably leave early. i don't sing karaoke & don't particularly care when others do either. buuuuuut with that said, it is your wedding, so you know your guest list better than i do.

If your guest are dancers they might not want to give up their dancing time for karaoke.they can't do both at the same time but if ppl look bored maybe it can be a way to save the day Smiley smile some ppl are not dancers. Believe it or not karaoke crossed my mind too. I wanted something for every body.

I was thinking about doing it for my reception also but I think just try to find somewhere to do it after our rehearsal dinner the night before so the OOT guests can have some sort of entertainment for the night. Congrats BTW.

I am thinking about it, towards the end of the reception. Depending on location of the reception anyway. My friends and some of his will all sing, and others are welcome to sing as well. I have a friend who is a DJ/KJ, and is very good at feeling out a crowd. If dancing is more popular that is what he'll play, and he would only let appropriate song be sung (at my wedding...at regular karaoke anything goes Smiley winking )

It would depend on the couple, the guests, the KJ/DJ...remember some people may be uncomfortable. My thoughts are if there is an area where those who do not want to participate can go (another room perhaps?), it is fine...and if the karaoke is mixed in with the dance songs. And done later, it could work.

We are doing live band karaoke! People get to sing songs with a live rock band behind them. It's way better than regular karaoke. More fun, sounds better, and my friends and family are singers, so a majority of them will get up there (even if it's in groups) and join the fun! =)

I love the idea, we've thought about it too. And I agree, with all the booze at a wedding it IS "bar like".... I know my wedding definitely will be. A few hours in and I have no doubt there will be plenty of karaoke volunteers! Sounds like so much fun Smiley laugh!

We are having karaoke the last few hours. I can't wait and it won't be hours of straight karaoke there will be songs inbetween singers. My mom actually said she can't wait to see people sing and we've had a great response so far from friends and family. Karaoke to me isn't so much a "bar" thing as a "party" thing which is exactly what a reception is.
