Kabobs

Swin., on May 23, 2016 at 1:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

So, I'll throw this out to start, we already have a caterer and they are connected to the venue so we only need to make our FINAL decision one month before. AKA I'm not being a totally insane wacko... just a little bit.

Anyways, FH and I have always thought that Kabobs sounded like they would be great for a wedding. KIND of like a BBQ, but a little different. Anyways, is this weird? I've never seen it and I feel kinda weird in it.

Also, if we did do this, what are good sides that don't make it feel like fourth of July? Thanks babes. You are all the best.

I don't think it's weird as long as you have proper utensils, tables/chairs etc so people can knife and fork it if they want. I love a good kabob dinner!

Sides could be macaroni salad, potato salad, cole slaw, corn, roasted asparagus, green bean salad?

    Now I'm hungry

Kabobs as in like... (apparently the venue makes great ones. It's one of their specialties?)

I love kabobs! I'm making lamb and pepper kabobs tonight. I think they would be awesome and a little different in the best way

Angela, I like the potato/macaroni salad idea. I was thinking pasta salad but FH and FMIL both think that rice would be better? I'm worried that is an "only their family" thing because I NEVER had rice with kabobs until I met them.

We are doing Kabobs for our rehearsal dinner but in the right setting I think Kabobs could absolutely be wedding food.

A rice pilaf would be yummy, I think I've had that before too. Could you do a rice pilaf and a pasta/potato salad option? Some people prefer one over the other. I would gravitate more towards a cold option but that's just me.

Oh that's a way good idea. We could do that and then have some sort of salad/other vegetable.

and bread would be unnecessary, right?

For me, personally, yes bread would be unnecessary. I would much rather load up on kabobs, pasta salad, etc than stuff my face w/ a piece of bread. Bread does provide a good source of soaking up all that yummy juice from the meat though = )

Can I come to your wedding? LOL.

Love kabobs! Just make sure that people have utensils too. That middle item on the kabob stick can get awkward to try to pull off with your teeth..... Smiley winking

I've found the venue's "specialty" to always be insanely yummy, so I'd vote for this idea!

I'd also vote for pasta salad as a side; if you're doing more of a Mediterranean kabob, then maybe rice pilaf.

Rice will be good. Greeks serve souvlaki with rice, salad, and potatoes. Souvlaki are basically kebobs with just meat on the skewers.

We wanted an element of Kabobs, primarily because when we started dating, FH would call and ask "can I have kabobs" and it became a thing with us.

We are adding kabobs in our appetizer element. We will have meat and cheese skewers, veggie skewers, and fruit skewers as a way to serve our original meal plan, but incorporate kabobs.

Okay I want Souvlaki RIGHT NOW. That sounds amazing.

And yeah, don't worry. We are having utensils and everything like normal. We just thought we could jazz up the meat a little bit and when they said kabobs we both were like... YESSSS!

You are all so great. And Angela, you got it! Come out to UT! W You would be b-list, hopefully that's okay? Smiley winking
