Justice of the peace

The pastor said he cant marry us cause we are living together does anyne know if the justice of tbe peace does weddings and if so who would i call, we live in Arkansas

    Look for an independent officiant. Not every state has JP's; NJ doesn't.

    Apparently, in Arkansas a Justice of the Peace is authorized to officiate weddings. Check with the county courthouse where you'll be getting your marriage license.

    Justice of the peace would be found at the courthouse. See if your local courts have a website, if not then call. A lot of them will come to your location for a small added fee. You can also use the vendor tab on here and search for another officiant that way.

    Can't you just hire a non-denominational officiant? I can't remember the last time I went to a wedding in a church.

    Just go down to the courthouse. And your pastor is being a tad dishonest-- he *won't* marry you-- it's not that the law won't let him and he can't.
