Justice of the Peace Wedding?

SoontoBeMrsBatdorf, on December 2, 2015 at 9:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Has anyone done this? Did you wear your wedding dress or another type of white dress or just regular clothes? My FH has joined the air force and is leaving for basic training in March. Since we don't have time and know how hard it would be to find a venue from now til then we are thinking of going to the justice of the peace and getting married before he leaves and then having a vow renewal and reception with our families when we get back. I've talked to some friends about it and they think I should wear my wedding dress I already have purchased. I kind of still want to wait and wear it for the vow renewal because I think I'd look silly in my dress at the JP.

I haven't done this but just offering my opinion of what I WOULD do. I don't think I would want to wear my dress at the JOP ceremony if I were going to wear it at the big vow renewal. I would get a nice but more casual dress for the JOP one.

Tons of people in my family do JP weddings, FH and myself even considered it honestly. My cousin who just did it back in like August wore a wedding dress, it was a mermaid style and very pretty. My sister just wore a simple dress and so did my mom. You can wear your dress at the vow renewal and just wear something simple for the JP. Like maybe a short ivory dress?

Personally, I'd do a sundress/sweater dress type deal. Simple but nice.

Also, I know you didn't ask about this but I'll say it anyways: don't feel the need to rush just because of training. I know it seems like it's necessary but you can totally do training without getting married. If that's what you guys want to do, go right ahead but none of those times apart are as bad as it might seem right now Smiley smile

My vote would be a more simple dress for JP, you don't want anything to happen to your gown, and then it could still be special to wear the one day! However, I don't think it would be weird if you wanted to. I still vote a more casual dress (I would do white, but then again I like to make any excise to wear white now).

I think I'm confused. We will be married by a JP, but it's still a ceremony and reception. Are you talking about a courthouse wedding? In either case, wear what you're comfortable wearing. If you don't want to wear your dress, then don't.

I think it depends on what you are planning. JOP weddings vary a lot, everything from courthouse, to living room to full formal wedding. The dress should match the setting, whatever it is. If you are doing a more casual setting stick with more casual dress.

I don't think you'd look silly if a wedding dress, but that is up to you. it's your dress, and I see no reason not to wear it if you wish. I think it's all up to you what you wish to do. Smiley smile
