Just met with the florist ... is this typical for the initial meeting??

Elizabeth, on June 9, 2013 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I met with the florist yesterday and I thought we'd be looking at flower arrangements, putting together ideas, and getting a real visual of what my bouquet would look like. Instead, she asked me a bunch of questions, had me look through her book, and pulled up pictures of flowers on google. I understand that they wouldn't have all flowers on hand, but I just thought I'd be looking at more examples in person. At the very end of the meeting she ended up showing me a few bouquets she had in the cooler so I could at least see the quality of the bouquets which is very nice.

Is this normal that you don't really get to put together a sample of your bouquet? It's just hard to imagine spending $1000 on flowers when I won't even get to see anything until the day of.

My first meeting was exactly like that as well! Not what I was expecting. I am from Texas and am getting married in California, and we had flown up there for a few days to meet with several of our vendors, and even after meeting with our florist our planner changed our florist like a week ago. So now I'm really iffy seeing as to how I won't even meet this one in person until my actual wedding!! Maybe ask them to show you something similar to what your bouquet will look like? That's what I am doing. I want similar examples as to what my flowers will look like!!

Its exactly what happened to me. I live in Georgia and getting married in Florida, and I only saw pictures of her work with similar flowers. I will not see a true sample until this Saturday when I get married. She was paid in full weeks ago.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was hoping to see more examples but it makes sense that they wouldn't everything available at the meeting. Thanks everyone!

Florists would never do a mock up of a bouquet it's too time consuming. I didn't see any examples when I went to a few florists but I know w girl getting married who actually asked ahead to be able to see some examples during her initial consultation. It was at more of a neighborhood but stil very well known type if florist but maybe ask and you can?

Same thing happened at my meeting so I guess it's standard!

It's standard. Our contract includes a sample centerpiece though so you can always ask to see a sample centerpiece or if you're not doing flower centerpieces you could ask for a sample bouquet.
