Just how important are invitations to you?

Samantha, on August 2, 2021 at 5:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 37

I am really into paper, and always dreamed of having my invitations engraved on Crane stationary...which is super expensive. We are NOT actually doing that because I really just can't justify it. However, I think if we were having a more formal wedding, I could easily talk myself into it!

I still haven't really decided on the "look" yet, but am driving myself a bit nuts over the perfect look...while knowing that no one will be as impressed with them as I am.

Are invites a big deal for you or was it an easy decision?

I wouldn't think too far into it. If you are set on having beautiful invitations, make 10 for the people who would appreciate them. Everyone else will throw them away.

Hello ! It wasn't really about the looks, but my wedding invitations were in 2 versions : in Polish and in French. It actually announced already the spirit of our wedding, so that was surely very important to me. And it was simple...as we wished.

    And there it is :

I agree with this! Especially if you have your heart set on something specific, I love the idea of getting a few really nice invitations (for yourself/parents/wedding party/etc), and then sending out cheaper ones to everyone else. For me, the invitations weren't a huge deal - we certainly wanted something that looked presentable and fit our vision, but didn't want to spend a lot of money and weren't overly concerned about looking fancy. We ended up finding a good design for cheaper than anticipated on Etsy, so we went with those!

Invites are semi important to me but I’m not going to break the bank when they’ll just get thrown away. I’m just going with a simple card in an envelope with the RSVP card and detail card but no fancy bows or laser cut decorative paper

I am a traditionalist when it comes to stationery and I love crisp and clean printed wedding invitations. For me perhaps it comes down to the fact that our wedding would feel more 'real' when I would be holding physical invitations in our hands.

I was going to order invitations with printed vellum jackets and wax seals and they would have run me about $800 but it felt totally appropriate as we were going to have a grand black tie wedding. Waste of money, yes, but with the intention of getting married once, I was totally ok with it!

We've now downsized our wedding by 70% and even though our new wedding plans won't be quite as formal, we are still going to order the same invitations so as to at least make everything look and feel like the original plans we had, just on a smaller scale.

So, I really, really love letter press and I always imagined some really beautiful, thick card and gold or rose gold lettering. Like so:

however... they were INSANELY expensive, and let's be real, people keep invitations on their fridge for a bit then throw it out, so we couldn't justify it. Plus, both of us are super practical people and definitely value convenience over sentiment for such things, so we went with digital invitations and save the dates through greenvelope.

I'm a bit of a control freak and really didn't like any of the designs I could find templates for online, so I designed all our paper goods myself using canva by mixing a few watercolour fruit and flower elements together that I bought on creative market. In the end I have created invitations, save the dates, stickers for cake bags/favours, welcome and seating signs, menus etc)

I did want SOME paper elements that the photographer could get snaps of, so we're doing menus through a local company and tested their various papers with our invitation first so we know what we'd like when the time comes. We were also able give my fiancé's grandmother a real, paper invitation this way since she doesn't use email, but without the cost and hassle of posting them.

And, having now had to postpone with covid, I'm so glad we didn't bother paying for postage etc, and that we have everyone's emails and can easily update them with new info online.

I know a lot of people don’t care about the wedding paper, but our invitation suite was important to me. Especially since we knew a number of our guests likely wouldn’t be able to make it due to COVID, I really wanted the invitations to feel like us and convey the feeling of our celebration so that friends and family who couldn’t join us could still feel like they got to experience a piece of the day with us (even if did just get thrown out later). We ordered through Basic Invite and I was really impressed with the quality we got for a pretty reasonable priceJust how important are invitations to you? 3

Your invites are super pretty! I love that flowery look - I designed something similar for ours, but included peaches, since I really wanted a combo of peach, pink and that green.

Your invites are really pretty. I LOVE the little side pocket to hold the extra cards instead if them just being thrown in the envelope. Can I ask where you ordered them from?

Invitations were one thing I wanted to save money on. We chose to send out invitations online through Greenvelope and saved quite a bit of money

We opted for a very trade invitation suite but added a little pop of color to tie into our wedding day. We selected our vendor off Etsy and she did not disappoint. Lots of compliments on them. We saved about $300-$400 by using her compared to the local shop we were going to use. I think the invitations really set the tone for the wedding day.

I’m very big on nice stationary so I’m going all out . But it does help budget wise since I only need 12 sets of invitations.

I ordered our invitations through Magnetstreet, they are very unique to us and the final cost was very reasonable after the 75% coupon code. It was important to me to set the tone of our wedding with the invites, and this was the only part of the planning that brought me to happy tears (not the dress or any other part of the planning). I think holding it in my hand made it all real!

Invitations weren’t important to me but at the same time important! Haha...

My goal was to send out a paper invitation that fit our theme perfectly but not spend a ton. I went with a single invitation, a postcard rsvp card (no envelope for rsvp) and I printed my own website information card. I spent a very very long time picking out my designs so it was very important to me but cost wise I paid a fraction of what typical invitation suites cost. In fact, it was actually originally an engagement invitation but I customized the wording to make it for my wedding. Everyone loved the invitation and said they’d never seen one like it. Here is an example of one similar to mine.

It was an easy decision. I didn't really put to much thought into it.

Invitations were really important to me. I wanted use admission tickets or scrolls but I couldn’t justify the price so I went with a simple but elegant design and had them printed at Office Depot. However after changing the date I went virtual the second time around.

I stressed over invitations! All the ones I loved were to expensive. I finally found the site I got mine from and I think they are absolutely perfect. (Magnetstreet.com) I just wanted something to match my theme and colors. Everyone kept trying to get me to just go with plain and I couldn't do it.

Invitations are way more important to me than most other things lol. Pretty much any paper stuff or signage I am spending way too much time and money on, but at least I'm aware of it I guess lol. I'm a graphic designer who works at a print shop, so I feel like I have to go above and beyond for these. I created our invitation suite and will be creating all of the signs and printed materials. I personally don't love linen papers, so they won't be super fancy in that way, but I'm considering using a vellum and possibly wax seals.

They were important to me! I'm obsessed with gorgeous pictures of flatlays and my photographer had basically nothing to work with so I brought all my own supplies. Our invites ended up costing about $250/$300 for 100 invites. I designed them myself on Zazzle and got envelope liners for like...half of them (I know that's so bad but honestly a bunch of our guests didn't even care and I wasn't going to waste the money if they didn't).

Unfortunately since we did online RSVPs all we had was the invite and a little business card-sized card with the online info. I really wanted a map but it was too much $$ to justify. I still think they came out nice!

Big deal. They set the tone for your entire wedding. I know they end up getting thrown away, but they are the first thing your guests sees that gives them a preview of what is to come! You can get gorgeous paper invitations for not too expansive on places like Shutterfly and Zazzle.
