Just had a Bridesmaid Appt and..... 😭

Earazona_, on February 9, 2020 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21
Okay so, I made an appointment at David's to figure out what style I wanted my girls in. It did not go well. While we were there everyone loved the dress, but when we left and got back to the house everyone had decided they didn't. Honestly I got frustrated. And my matron of honor, isnt being entirely too helpful either. Its just a bad day in the neighborhood. Here are the dresses I picked. I love them both and they go so well with my aesthetic. Also they will be wine colored as well. Opinions? Just had a Bridesmaid Appt and..... 😭 1

Why don’t they like them? Too sheer on top, too expensive, what?

They are both under $100, so its not the pricing. No one wants to tell me what the problem is.

They’re beautiful! But what don’t they like about them? Maybe go back another day and try again? Are you set on that dress or open to other dress suggestions?

Is there another store to look at? Maybe express to them that you want them to be comfortable and look nice and by having their feedback it’ll help everyone find the best fit!

Maybe that's not their type of dress. If they're paying I would ask them what type to they like. If you're paying then you can choose the dress. I would ask each lady honestly why they dislike it.

Maybe they don’t feel comfortable in that particular style dress? It maybe helpful to let them choose a dress that they feel comfortable wearing. That way, everyone wins.

It's often the fabric. That chiffon floaty fabric can feel like nightgowns to some. Or at least that's what I was told. Maybe a dress with more structure would be good. Look for dresses in Mikado. David's has them. It might make them feel better to at least try.

They need to give you some kind of feedback. You can’t do anything without knowing why they don’t like it. Try another visit, have them pick dresses they would like, and see what you can work with. That’s what I would do. And make sure they are communicating with you.

Coming from a busty lady, it maybe how are they going to support the tatas. Since its sheer up top, any sticky tape will show. Strapless bras are crap if boobs are heavy. I would look on azazie. Find dresses with straps/strapless/halter and look at different fabric types. You can even order a fabric sample in the color you like. They can order samples of the dress/dresses you like and then you've got what you want style/color wise and they can feel good in their bodies.

I think the dresses are very flattering and fit each of your bridal party very well! I would definately have a sit down with them and try to discuss maybe what they dont like about the dress?

I found it hard also with bridesmaids fittings! I found it best to let them choose their favourite styles - let them pick 3 or 4. Then go through them all and decide which one you prefer and which one you think majority of them will like.

Then just go with it! You're never going to please them all and I found if you don't be strict then you'll end up going around in circles. I think the bridesmaids dresses were a bigger struggle than my own dress!

Personally, I think the second dress is very nice looking. The first looks a bit unflattering on the BM wearing it.

It reminds me of when I tried on wedding gowns. There were several I really liked while in the store, but when looking at photos later, I had a “what was I thinking” moment. Maybe it’s the same type of thing for them.
I’d just allow them to choose a dress they love in your color.

Because of the sheer top part neither dress can be worn with a bra with straps, so if I had any chest at all I would not want to wear either of those dresses. Based on the photos, it looks like the sheer part goes down pretty low in the back as well, so most strapless bras are going to show (not a good look, in my opinion) or the BMs are going to need to buy a low back bustier, which can be expensive. Also, it looks like you're at David's? When daughter looked there she didn't like a lot of the fabrics of the dresses -- she thought they were very thin. As a pp suggested, maybe try looking on Azazie. Daughter used them and found the price and quality MUCH better than DB. (If the online aspect concerns you, you can try sample dresses for $10.) Search Azazie on this forum and you'll have a hard time finding anything but glowing reviews. Good luck!

I think it's probably a combo of the fabric, cut and sheer tops for busty ladies. I think you can find a more structured fabric they'll be more comfortable in. They look uncomfortable. I agree, however, that they should be adults and tell you what aspects they don't like. But make them feel like you won't get mad at them if they trash the dress. You love them and want them to feel beautiful

What I am doing to avoid this is, telling my bridesmaids to pick a dress of their choice as long as it is the color I chose, and it is a long dress. We are going to shop on azazie, so they will have lots of options.

I gave my girls a fabric, color & length and they picked their own dress. It was so much easier.
