Jury duty

Sarah, on August 18, 2017 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I'm getting married next month!!! I have been chosen for jury duty for the month of September! (Eye roll) first time, what are the odds right when I'm getting married. Not that big of a deal, just a little stressed about the week of the wedding. There are three days that week I could potentially have to serve. Including the two days before the wedding.

Call them and let them know about your upcoming nuptials and ask to be rescheduled.

Once you report, if they call you they'll ask you if there's a reason why you would be unable to serve on jury duty for x amount of days, I'm sure if you tell them you are getting married on x day they will see that as a good reason to dismiss you.

You should be able to go on the court's website and find a form that requests deferment. You can attach a copy of your marriage license if you have it or another type of proof.

On the paper I had to sing and return, It did ask if there was any date that you would be unable to attend. It said to make note of them and the judge would look it over and let me know if I could be excused. I marked the 28th and 29th ... have not heard back yet.. trying not to worry about it.

I do too. What are the odds to get pick THREE TIMES. I am hoping that they decide to dismiss me. I am getting married on the 8th and my date is the 3rd.

I was excused because I was officiating a wedding. I'm sure you -- the bride -- will be excused.

Here where I live you just tell them you can't make it for reason of marriage, etc. and asked to be rescheduled. You also can be excused if you were called in the last 3 years. I've served three times been called twice and dismissed once. UGH!

P.S. We can reschedule online. The online process is so much easier than the previous mail in or trying to call in. Good luck!

I called and left a message about the deferment, no one called back. I looked online without any luck. Going to have to try again Monday
