Junior bridesmaid dyed hair teal

Christine, on January 5, 2019 at 12:05 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21
Hello! I need advice, my future sister in law who is in my wedding as a bridesmaid allowed her 12 year old daughter who is a junior bridesmaid to dye her hair teal blue. It is permanent hair dye. The wedding is in 2 1/2 months. I'm upset, I do not want a blue haired girl in the wedding or wedding photos but I don't know what to say or do that won't cause a huge drama.
Help!!

You can’t say anything. It will have faded massively in 2 1/2 months anyway, not to mention grown out a fair amount as well, but you can’t dictate personal appearance of your bridesmaids. And if you kick her out it’ll cause a family rift.

I agree. I mean in the end it is your wedding. But it is just hair. My neice may have pink or blue or some other color hair. It is just hair. It will probably fade by weddung.

Theres really nothing you can do about it. Unless you take her out of the bridal party, but I dont recommend that since it will open up a huge can of worms.

Agreed. You can’t really tell her to do something about it, and I totally understand being upset by it, but this will likely only cause unecessary drama if you address it. Just because it is “permanant” doesn’t mean its going to look great in two months, it will fade! You also might be assuming that they are intending for her to keep it this way, perhaps they have plans on changing it back to her natural color before your wedding? Since its blue, it is likely going to turn into a green by a few weeks, and maybe they will want to change it by that phase?

Its a tricky situation, but I would honestly let it go to avoid causing any hard feelings between everyone. However, I do recommend on asking for an updo for the wedding day, this might make it less noticiable if its still a problem. Also I am curious what your wedding colors are?

I’m in the same situation. My junior bridesmaid has her tips dyed bright red. It happened over 3 months ago and she did it with kool aid. Said it was temporary but it hasn’t gone away. She doesn’t intend on changing it for the wedding. 😐😐😐

You don't do or say anything. It sucks that you don't like it, but remember that you asked her to stand with you because of who she is, not because of what she looks like. It would be really rude to ask her to change it and will hugely damage your relationship with the family if you did anything about it. Accept it, move on and be happy she's such an individual

Yikes. Same exact thing happened to my future sister in law. Her friend since 6th grade decided a week before her wedding that she wanted to dye her hair a bright teal blue. Her wedding pictures look great, except, you cannot miss that hair... I’m sorry hopefully that color will fade out. Has she always dyed her hair colors like that?

You want her standing with you because you love her right? Do you love her less for her hair color. I get you want beautiful pictures, but you can't tell someone to change their appearance for those pictures, unless you hire models. My sister (moh) had blue hair when I asked her to be my moh, she currently has red, and I thinks she wants mauve for the wedding. My brother (also my officiant) currently has silver hair, and he's unsure if hes going to maintain it or not. My hair is and probably will be pinky red. My photos will still be beautiful and make me happy, because of who is in them and the day it captures. I hope yours will too.

You can’t ask her to dye it back but there are some ways it can be mitigated. I would ask her to do a low key hairstyle like a low bun, etc. and use some temp hair coloring. They make spray on, cream, and gel coloring that can be washed out after a few hours. I’d see if they’re open to the temp coloring but you have to be prepared for her to say no.

I think you're over reacting. Its just hair and the fact that it bothers you to the point you dont want her in pictures would probably really hurt her feelings

You, and the few people who agreed with you in this thread, are being extremely selfish and unreasonable. A person with blue hair is not going to wreck your photos or wedding, she will still look happy and beautiful in the pictures. The world doesn’t revolve around your wedding. You can’t ask family or friends to permanently or semi-permanently change their appearance for the sake of your wedding pictures. Put yourself in her shoes: how would you feel if you were someone’s bridesmaid, and she decided she wanted all her bridal party to have purple hair and was insisting you dye yours. Would you still be in that bridal party, or even remain friends with that person?

If you care more about perfect photos than having people you care about in your wedding, hire models, not your family and friends.

It's just hair. Her hair color won't take away from you or your day. Let if go.

You're just gonna have to let this one go or cause that rift by kicking her out if its THAT important to you.
My sister has been all about the crazy colors and I asked what color she was doing for the wedding and she said "probably a natural color for you." When I told her I didnt mind the crazy colors but I loved how her blonde ombre looked she said she was already thinking about keeping that for the wedding.

Blue hair dye doesn’t last. It’ll be green in two weeks and she’ll have to dye it again. If she hasn’t dyed her hair a bright color like this before she will likely get sick of the upkeep before your wedding. I wouldn’t worry about it until two weeks before the wedding and then you can ask her mother what color hair she is planning on having for the wedding. However, I agree with a lot of the other commenters that if “blue” is the answer there’s nothing you can do about it.

Why does it matter? Did you ask her to be a bridesmaid because you love HER or her hair? I don’t see why it matters. At my sister’s wedding my daughter had “mermaid hair” which was purple, blue, and green. She wasn’t a bm but was in family pictures. It doesn’t look weird.

I dyed my hair every color under the sun in middle/high school. I'm glad my mom "allowed" me the chance to experiment and express myself. At 12 shes still figuring out who she is and if you express how upset you are its going to really hurt her feelings.

Its okay to be disappointed and a little upset that this won't exactly match your vision for the day, as long as you know there is nothing at all you can or should do about it. These are people you love and care about who are just living their lives in best way they see fit, not props for your wedding day.

It’s just hair. Do you really want to kick her out over something stupid like this? That’ll definitely sever any relationship you had with her.

This sounds like when Kim Kardashian was mad at Kylie for having blue hair for her wedding. Just get over it. It's just hair.
