Future Mrs. V
Dedicated October 2017

Junior Bridesmaid and Ring Bearer

Future Mrs. V, on June 7, 2017 at 12:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I plan to have my 4 year old nephew and my 9 year old niece in my wedding. He is the perfect age for a ring bearer. I think she is too old to be a traditional flower girl and the beach where we are getting married prohibits tossing flower petals of any kind. Thus I think of her as a junior bridesmaid.

My idea is that she will get her own bouquet and walk down the aisle with her brother. This gives the added benefit of someone to help keep him on track. During the ceremony one or both of them can sit with their parents instead of standing up with the wedding party.

Will this look weird since they may be the only ones not walking down the aisle alone (other than me)? Is there a better way to include her? Do they participate in the Recessional or just leave with their parents after the ceremony?

I think that idea is perfect, I had 9 year old JR BMs who held small bouquets and walked in with our 4 year old ring bearer and it worked out great! Because we only had a short ceremony we had the JR BMs stand up front with the BMs and walk in the recessional, though because of his age we had the ring bearer sit with his mother and not take part in the recessional.

I don't think that would be weird at all. A 4 year old will most definitely need some guidance to get down the aisle so I think that will work out really well.

I think that is a great idea.

This sounds great! I have 5 flower girls (less than traditional I know) and they will be walking down in a pair (my two baby sisters) and then as a three (3 cousins), the youngest being four who will be sandwiched in between a 7 year old and a 9 year old to ensure she doesn't escape!
