Junior BM role ... walk down the aisle? What order?

Kylene, on July 7, 2014 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

My FH has two nieces who are a bit old to be flower girls (7 & 10) so I am having them be junior bridesmaids ... problem is, I don't really know what that means! Do they act as BMs, just younger? Do you give them special jobs to do (hand out programs, etc).

Most importantly, do they walk down the aisle, and if so, when? First, before all the other BMs/GMs or after? I'm not sure they event WANT to walk down the aisle, but if they do, just wondering the customary order, if there is one!

I think they would walk down the aisle first (?)

Perfect, that's what I was thinking but wanted to confirm. Thanks!

We also have 2 Jr bridesmaids, one is fh's niece and the other is a close family friends daughter. They will probably walk down first and I was going to have them hand out the programs as well, (gives them something to do)

Usually they are treated just as their title states: JUNIOR _________ . The JBM can't really have another duty such as passing out programs as she will be with the bride and bridesmaids before the ceremony primping or taking the pictures. Giving the job to the JGM would be doable, especially if you are going to have your groomsmen double as ushers

We are having one 9 year old junior bridesmaid - my future step daughter :-)

I was going to have her walk down the aisle first but she's very shy and didn't want to. So I'm putting her in the middle with two MOH before her and two BM after her. It won't look that great with the shortest person in the middle but her comfort is more important to me.

@Carrie -- I'm with you on that. The 10 year old I think will be fine but the 7 year old isn't thrilled about walking down the aisle. Not sure she is even going to want to at all -- she may just be up front already ... we'll do whatever is best for her, just haven't figured out what yet. For the other, I think it'll work for her to just walk first.
