June Wedding - No Flowers

Lydia, on March 22, 2020 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
So I’m already having to deal with the possibility of postponing my wedding on June 6th. If we postpone, we are waiting a year....potentially June 12, 2021. With the uncertainty of the wedding, I contacted my vendors. I texted my florist explaining that there was a chance that the wedding would be postponed. She responded saying that even if the wedding was still on, she didn’t think she’d be able to pull it off.

A little background info is that she is a former student of mine who has been trained in floral design and I was using her so that she could build her portfolio and get some real life experience. I begged to give her money and I offered to draft a contract on several occasions... no money was ever exchanged and nothing was signed. I’ve had a bad feeling about this for a while and I know it’s my own fault.
So now, my question is how do I get flowers this late in the game when all “nonessential” businesses are closed in my area until further notice? Can I order from Costco? Do I contact the florist my local grocery store ? The wedding still might not happen, so do I even worry about it now?
Brides! Do Not Proceed With A Vendor Without A Signed CONTRACT!

I definitely recommend trying a grocery store! We are getting part of our florals from HyVee, but I’ve seen people have good luck with Costco’s and Sams clubs too! I was nervous they wouldn’t have all the flower and greenery types I wanted but they actually did and they were reasonable prices!

Yea, probably not a bad idea. I prefer real, but desperate times call for desperate measures. ... and if I order something like silk flowers and the wedding gets postponed, I can still use them.

Ok, I was going to order a garland from Costco anyway, so I could order everything from there. I suppose I should look into it anyway. Thank you!

I think theirs works like kits you can buy too! If you have a local wedding group I’d ask around for people to show pics if they’ve used that specific costco. I was nervous using Hyvee at first but when I walked in to meet with the lady she was putting together some wedding bouquets and they were beautiful!

Ooh, good idea. Will a florist make a bouquet last minute like that?

Depending on the florist- esp since everything going on I would say yes most would be able to put one together last minute if needed I mean probably nothing too extravagant lol but you could even DIY from Costco, sams club BJS local grocery store/ nursery near you!

Maybe look into silk flowers or check out fiftyflowers.com. I ordered a small batch of the flower i wanted and they shipped and delivered quickly. The flowers looked great too!

I know you prefer real but my FMIL is doing all of our florals with the fake flowers and greenery from Hobby Lobby and it's shocking how real they look! I believe even in the midst of all of this you can still order online. Check Michaels too! Honestly can't even tell the stuff is fake and you get to keep them forever! I highly recommend! Plus, both stores always have sales and discounts going on so be sure to keep an eye on their websites. 😊

I know that flowers seem like such a big part of the wedding day, but if, at the end of the day you and your bridesmaids have to get together and get creative making your flower arrangements, you will have a fun memory, feel very proud of what you accomplished, and have beautiful bouquets to boot. If you're self isolating at the moment, you can look up flower arranging basics and videos on YouTube.

We used fake flowers in August, because my dad has terrible allergies.

There are so many ways to get fake flowers, it shouldn't be a problem at all. Plus, it's usually cheaper.
