June Mini-moon Suggestions, Ma, Nh, Ri, South me

Eamsee, on April 27, 2019 at 3:55 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20
My fiancé just got the green light on a few days off after our wedding for a mini-moon. We love the outdoors and are currently located in the eastern Adirondacks, NY. We were thinking of heading to the coast and getting a fishing charter. We want to avoid Cape Cod and Gloucester, as we have both been there before. We are looking for a quaint area, not a party or super commercial location. Ideally we would love to stay at a Victorian B&B, do an off shore fishing charter, and maybe see some historical and/or natural sights. Northern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Southern Maine, and even Rhode Island is where we are looking. Preferably not CT. I would appreciate any advice (positive and negative) as time is ticking and the wedding is in 41 days. Thank you!

I’m biased because our wedding will be in York Maine but I love it there! I’d look into York and Ogunquit if you are thinking southern Maine. Newburyport and Portsmouth also came to mind when you were describing wanting something classic New England. All these places are fairly (few hours drive) from the mountains if you wanted to do a day trip away from the coast. Or maybe Newport RI? I’d look into airbnb/ cottage or house rentals in addition to hotels if you can. Things in the area might have limited availability because these are pretty popular vacation spots but it’s worth a shot!

Portland, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, Maine areas have lots of lovely B&b's. The gazebo Inn in ogunquit has an awesome looking honeymoon package. http://www.gazeboinnogt.com/packages.cfm

Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth is a beautiful old remodeled hotel that's a marriot now. Portsmouth does a free concert series in the summer that's at a lovely public garden on the mouth of the river https://www.prescottpark.org/calendar All its a pretty place to visit either way.

Or...plum island, ma definitely has some quaint rentals and fishing!

If you are not sure about location then why don’t you look at prices for different places to see what the best deal is.

I agree with PP, Ogunquit ME is beautiful! We went for a weekend to celebrate my birthday a few years ago and stayed at a cute B&B called the Rockmere (?), or something like that.

Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth is gorgeous, and I would also recommend that, but it does not really have the B&B feel, its more of a hotel.

You could also try Portland, ME, there is a train that will take you all of the way down to Boston, but you could of course drive. If you are trying to avoid Gloucester and the Cape because you've been there then you may want to opt out of staying in MA, and focus more on ME and NH. If you want to go to Boston, I would stay downtown, but if you aren't interested in the north or south shore then I don't know that there would be enough for you to do in MA that would make staying there worth it.

Thank you! I started looking up fishing charters by Google Maps and then typing the town they are located in into Google Images and making a "Possible" list. York, ME is on there as well as Portsmouth, NH. Neither one of us has been to this area of the country before, so this is all sight unseen. A few others that might look good (from my very little bit of research so far) are Kittery, ME, Saco, ME, and Hampton, NH. Would you know anything about them and if so, would you say "yay" or "nay"?

I'm currently searching fishing charters by Google Maps and then searching the towns of the charters in Google Images to see if it looks like a location we may be interested in. Once I narrow down the charter companies, their availability, and pricing, then I will start looking into accommodations.

I'll definitely look into Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. I know where Portland is and it's a bit too far north for us. We only have from June 13th - 16th, so it's a "mini-moon" in every sense of the term.

I'll look in to Wentworth by the Sea and I'll check into Plum Island, MA as well and see if it is doable. Thank you so much for your help!

Kittery, ME is just across the bridge from Portsmouth, I would 100% recommend Portsmouth! It's also a quick drive down to Plum Island, I don't think you can go wrong with Portsmouth!

From what I've heard, Hampton Beach is a bit like "Jersey Shore".

I will definitely look into your suggestions.

Unfortunately we only have from June 13th to the 16th, so it's a one town stay kind of deal. But considering up until yesterday my fiancé was scheduled to work the day of our wedding and the day after, I'm grateful that we could do any sort or mini-moon at all. They joys of unexpectedly starting a new job. Thank you so much for the help!

UPDATE: I found an absolutely gorgeous Victorian Bed and Breakfast just outside of Portsmouth, NH and booked it! The photos are stunning, the reviews are extremely good, and the price was perfect for what we were looking for.

I did find multiple fishing charters available for the date we need. I called and left messages (it was after hours) with many inquiring about the specifics. If anyone has a recommendation for a specific off shore fishing charter in the Portsmouth area, I would love to hear it! Thanks again for all the help!

If*** you look into RI I would only do it if you do Newport or Block Island. Then the further South you go has some nicer places. (I'm a local).

Portsmouth NH is amazing. I haven't seen much of Maine but its pretty.
