June brides - we have issues with deposits and virus

Laura, on March 13, 2020 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

For everyone marrying in June the issue is that all our deposits are coming due now, invitations are ready to go out (mine is in Arkansas but no family live there- even I don't)... We still have a chance to not flush money away. We still have time to make changes if we need to... We're freaking out because we have to decide now. My first 'big' final deposit is due in 2 weeks. The next one is due the following week... and so on.

So would you gamble? Please don't reply with mine is in 20 days. I know that you are stuck and you've already paid and you have to choose to cancel or accept that you paid a ton for a very different wedding than you'll end up with... If you were us - and you could have changed things - would you??? That's our question.

Early June wedding here. We have paid deposits for all but catering (we were planning our wedding in 4 months). Before I answer - have you paid any deposits? Have you spent under 1k so far (excluding things that you will always use - like wedding dress)?

In your case I would actually move it. cause it doesn’t sound like you’re losing money and your invites haven’t gone out so you do at least have the chance at it

Yes, I'm at about 1k right now. I owe another 6k+ in the coming months. It's a small wedding to begin with...

Late May, so similar timeframe. We've paid all of our deposits and won't have to pay the remaining balances until the week or two before the wedding. Our invitations have already all been printed and decided before the virus really blew up in the US..... so we are basically moving forward as planned and just waiting to see how it progresses (a bunch of my family in medical/health related fields aren't super worried either).

I hate to say this and hate to tell you what to do, but, unless you have circumstances that make you want to get married in June vs say, September, I would postpone. While ANY money is a lot of money, you're fortunate you haven't spent more. And - if you can transfer the date, then my guess is you won't lose anything.

We wanted to get married before my brother deploys to the Middle East in August so our options are June or May/June 2021 (outside venue) and we are considering postponing a year because, while it will definitely be better than right now, we still think we might feel really anxious, not be able to fully enjoy ourselves with the concern of people being "too close" etc, and know that we won't be able to do a lot of prep that we needed to over the next month.

If I was 4 weeks closer, I'd do the same. Smiley heart

I can't tell you what to do. Mine is June 6, 2020. I WILL marry my future husband that day. We will be paying our vendors. If we lose out, we lose out. Hopefully if it means we can't have our big family/friends ceremony/reception, our vendors will be considerate and return the money or work something out with us. If not...I'm still married to the love of my life at the end of the day. The person officiating promised he will still do our ceremony, no matter what happens.

If you can move it back I would do it. June 6 here, I am not panicking just yet but I am aware that things may happen. With that said we shall move forward and just hope for the best.

Fair enough! I totally get it and if it was a more plausible option, or had to start paying our final balances soon we would probably be in the same spot. Best of luck to a fellow bride in a tough spot! Smiley heart

June 6 too. I have been totally panicked. We have paid the majority of the money for our venue and caterer (thousands of dollars) and most of our vendors. We won’t get any of the money back. I’m not worried if they shut down PR and we have to do it in VA. I’m worried they don’t and we need to make the decision about whether it is smart to have the wedding or cancel and lose all the money.

Mine it June 27th in NC. We already send out invitations (it's a destinaition wedding for about half of our guests). I don't know yet what to do. If the travel ban from the EU is being extended we will postpone the wedding, if not we will keep going (so we will know mid April I guess).

Ours is June 27th and we're just getting ready to send invites. It's so nerve wracking when you have the control to make changes. I find that almost harder than having them made for us. I think we're trying to hold out until mid-April too.

I know, right? I have been freaking out a little because I'm German and a ton of guests would be coming from Germany, but rn with the ban we have a huge problem!
