June 6th Bride here!

Hi! We are still planning right now! But our hope is slowly dwindling. We do have a back-up date but our venue and church are booked out until January next year. We have been engaged for 3 years. Do you think it would still be safe to have our wedding?? We have over 200 guests that have already sent in their rsvp's and we have 5 out of town guests. I really hate to postpone everything. But I know I need to think about the safety of our family and friends. We are from a small-knit community. I'm so overwhelmed with everything. As the Ohio governor announced yesterday that Ohio was going to start opening May 1st. Could we still go ahead with it and provide our guest masks? I don't know just trying to come up with any solution, but I'm afraid I'm out of solutions.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

For me, it was a waiting game. As soon as airlines and lodging were giving full refunds was when I did my cancellations. I mean regardless, with all the strict guidelines, a bunch of my friends and family wouldn’t have been able to come especially with 2 week quarantines. My wedding date was May 1st so as hard as it sounds since once we get engaged all we do is plan... i would say play it by ear. Stay in communication with your vendors and venues and see what they can do regarding possible rescheduling. I believe you only need two weeks notice for food vendors so they can cancel any orders. Good luck and I wish you the best!

Honestly, I would be surprised if Ohio would allow groups that large in early June. I just postponed by 100+ guest June 20 wedding to August for that reason. I could have waited it out longer, but we needed to get our vendors worked out and I didn’t want to stress so much up until my wedding day thinking it could be cancelled at any moment. I also don’t want my guests to have to worry about their safety and wear masks. Best of luck to you, hopefully this all passes more quickly than we expect.

With the new regulations regarding opening America back up, some states will be able to get to Phase II by May/June but this will only allow 50 person gatherings max. Phase III, which allows unlimited gatherings will not be reached for a while as there cannot be an increase in cases for at least 14 days between phases. There will definitely be increases in cases as things open up. I would postpone. This is the information we based our decision on this week to postpone our 200 person July 2020 wedding to July 2021.

    Hi Brooke,

Unfortunately, no one really knows with 100% accuracy what will happen next in the COVID-19 pandemic. To an extent, it depends on where you are.

However, you should be able to move forward with your wedding one way or another. If group size restrictions impact your total headcount, maybe you can reduce to 50 attendees--whatever is recommended by then--and get married regardless. Have you considered a Plan B?

The one item that you may want to investigate is getting your marriage license. Many county offices are closed temporarily, and online licenses are available in some places. Just a thought!

I wish you the best of luck for your June wedding! Smiley heart
