Jumping the Broom

MsDani313, on June 27, 2016 at 1:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

FH and I have chosen to include the tradition of jumping the broom. I want to make my own but am having trouble locating a plain jumping broom. I have gone to multiple craft stores and looked online. Buying online is a pain due to shipping charges. I'm in the Chiago area. Does anyone know where I can find a broom?

I am having the same issue buying one online with the shipping charges is a pain but I think I am just going to buy a normal straw broom from Walmart and call it a day

I'm making my own from scratch using dried palm leaves. Beach theme. Why not just buy a plain straw broom then decorate it?

I'm looking for a broom. I've been to 15 different stores and can't find one.

I will try Wal-Mart though for the regular straw broom.

@Junia...where did you buy the palm leaves?

I had the same problem! It seems like no one carries them anymore. My mother in law purchased the rattan and made it into the shape of the broom and decorated it herself. It turned out great. I'm going to buy a shadow box to store it and hang it in our home.

My brother's backyard LOL. I'm from Florida originally and I still have a ton of family there.

You might also want to try thrift stores. I randomly found one in a thrift store about 2 months ago and almost pulled the trigger. Realised that would be stupid since I live in Minnesota and would have to ship/transport it. Since then I've seen at least 2 others in thrift stores. You might luck out and find one.

I bought a cinnamon broom from Publix Supermarket, but I've also seen them in Cracker Barrel. Inexpensive, smells good, just the right size, and Made in USA!

I ordered mine online. My mom was going to make one for me, but I couldn't find one that I liked. And all of the materials we would need started adding up.

ETA I ordered mine from African-weddings.com

I will get to work on your suggestions. I want to stay away from ordering and customize myself. I thank everyone for their help as always!

I don't know if you have Pat Catan's craft stores, but ours sell jumping brooms in the wedding section. You might also find one at a Halloween or costume store.

If you are still looking. Atouchofcountrymagic.com has cinnamon brooms that can be ordered in different "flavors."
