July Weddings?

Hallie, on June 26, 2020 at 8:11 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
Anybody moving forward with their July wedding? I’m in South Texas & cases have began to spike again. My wedding is planned for July 25th. The venue has said recently that we are clear to move forward as long as we’re under the 50% capacity, which we are, but that’s still about 150 people. We already sent out invitations & got RSVPs back about a week ago before it the cases really started spiking again. Feeling a little nervous. My family members have said that all of the people that will go are comfortable going and I shouldn’t put that weight on my shoulders. But I can’t stop thinking about a covid outbreak because of it. Really hard when it’s something we’re allowed to do & the venue felt confident, but I’m having a hard time with it.

It really depends on the state...and I do mean this as gently as possible, but as I'm sure you know things are spiraling pretty quickly right now in Texas. Smiley sad Even today, your governor started closing down businesses again and limiting outdoor gatherings to 100 people. So my guess is unfortunately, you're just going to have to go day-to-day at this point. Many of your guests will probably make a game time decision based on whatever the state looks like 30 days from now. Your family is right that whoever is comfortable will go, and you'll just have to give some grace to those who opt not to attend a gathering of that size. It sucks, and it's not fair, and you deserve to have your day. I truly hope people down there start taking this more seriously and things get better soon!

I think there’s a big difference between states/venues reopening... versus the reality of the virus still spreading. I know lots of us brides were waiting for our venues to reopen so that we could move forward with the wedding. Sadly, there’s a false sense of comfort and a huge amount of denial that reopening created. I totally understand because I’m an October bride who recently postponed until next October. But, with the numbers rising in Texas and your wedding only a month away, I would have the same discomfort about holding my wedding that you have. That’s a big decision that you need to make sooner than later.

I completely understand what you are going through. I feel the same as I am planning a wedding the week before you. I have cut my guests from 400+ to about 100 and have moved to an indoor/outdoor space, but I am so worried about the safety of everyone. It is hard when you have so much money/time invested and legally are allowed to move forward. My loved ones have said the same as yours and I even added a disclaimer that I understood if people decide not to attend. In the meantime I am buying sanitizer and supplying extra masks while hoping for the best. Good luck!

I think Stacey is absolutely right.

Unfortunately, I think you're in the same position a lot of NY/NJ brides were in March... things are above your pay grade, as it were, which just... it's just awful.

    I'm sorry.

The problem I ran into was I had come close at risk family members who insist on coming no matter the risk. I felt selfish having the full wedding and not doing anything to protect my loved ones. I also know myself and if someone got sick at my wedding it would devastate me. We choose to have our wedding with just immediate family and our wedding party to make it a little safer and cut down on numbers.

Hi Hallie! I've seen a ton of couples still planning on going forward with their July celebrations, but the local situation in Texas may have thrown things for a big loop!

Here's a recent discussion for July weddings, and a post where you can connect with other Texans:
