July 4th weekend

AlyM, on October 3, 2009 at 8:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

So . . . I just read an article that made me feel really bad about the date we picked. Basically, we wanted a weekend in June, but the place was booked. We have to do Saturdays because of the church, and the next available Saturday was July 2, so July 4 is that Monday. Is it bad to have a wedding then? I didn't want to get too late in the month--really hot summers here, and I have to worry about moving across the country and getting a teaching job the next month. What do you guys think?

I think the date is fine. I've been to a wedding that was July 3rd before. I think the date you picked is fine and that the people who really want to be there will be there even though it is a holiday weekend.

No, I don't think that's bad at all. I've already been booked for a Friday, July 2 wedding next year -- certainly hope to get booked Saturday July 3 as well.

Many weddings are planned during those 3-day holiday weekends. Memorial Day weekend and Columbus Day wedding are particularly popular. Labor Day weekend a little less so, in my experience.

No reason why your friends and families, including those who are traveling from out of town, can't enjoy making a holiday weekend based around your 4th of July weekend wedding!

I would say that for that specific holiday it shouldn't be a problem. Most people that I know for the 4th of July don't go very far out of town-- they just go to the fireworks the day of and maybe a BBQ or something. Since you're having it July 3rd I really wouldn't worry about it. I think doing a wedding during Memorial Day weekend and/or labor day weekend should be avoided simply because many people do take those opportunities to go away with their families.

These dates often book up quickly.

It's perfect for travelers, because they already have a 3 day weekend.

    Not a bad choice.

I think that holiday weekend is fine. A lot of guests will probably use your wedding as a good reason to have a long weekend away. I wouldnt worry about it at all and there is no point putting it off to a more stressful time with a move.

We've booked the place already, and are working on the other details. So far no problems. Smiley smile Thanks for your input, ya'll!

My sister was married on July 3rd. She did not run into any issues with the date.

Well, since my wedding date is July 3rd, I'll definitely be one to back you up on your decision! Smiley smile The great part about holiday weekends is that most people already have the time off for it!

No, I don't think thats a bad date, my friend who was married on memorial day weekend (I was MOH) and everything turned out beautiful! PPL will go by ur schedule, not the other way around. REMEMBER THAT! I made that mistake and they ended up stabbing me in the back. Don't let ppl control ur day, if thats what u want then go for it! Good luckSmiley smile

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting married on July 3rd. Thats my wedding date! As long as you send out a save the date ahead of time so people don't make holiday plans they should be there.
