July 2021

Hi everyone!

Our wedding is in July 2021. We’re so excited to celebrate with our family and friends. FH and I are now trying to decide on an alternative plan if by next summer we’re still not back on track due to the pandemic. My future in-laws will all be traveling from out of state. Their safety is our #1 priority. On top of travel expenses, we would feel horrible if they needed to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to NYC. We will be engaged 2 years next April. We’re more than okay with postponing our reception. We still want to have our ceremony even if it’s not done the way we originally planned. We’ll go to City Hall or even get married in our backyard if necessary. We were advised by our officiant to apply for our marriage license in early June. How would we discuss these hypothetical situations and address our concerns with our vendors? At the end of the day, I want pay off my wedding dress, rent him a tux and have a beautiful ceremony that speaks true to who we are. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Best wishes to all of you! 😊

I would reach out to your vendors now to ask about their postponement policies, or check your contracts with them. If they're willing to let you postpone, I would ask if they can put a soft hold on a date for 2022 for you as a backup plan, but also still plan on July 2021 for now. That way, if things aren't looking better as time gets closer, you'll already have a backup plan that you can turn to.

Congrats! I'm a July 2021 bride too! The most important thing is to read your contract. Some will include an "act of god" clause where you can be refunded. Also whenever I am talking to a potential vendor I always ask them how did they adapt to handling covid especially early on. Did they allow clients to reschedule? Provide refunds? Vendor credit? etc. Asking those questions will give you a better idea of what could potentially happen if we get shut down again.

Hi MaryElena! Like everyone has said, the first thing I'd do is review your contracts with your big reception vendors (especially your venue and catering) and see what their postponement / rescheduling policies are. It might even be helpful to jot down a list of "reception vendors" and "no matter what" vendors so you know who's services you'd potentially be postponing! Like you mentioned you'll want your officiant there no matter what, and maybe your photographer? Or dj / musicians?

Having a solid Plan B in place and knowing any potential upcoming decision deadlines with your big reception vendors will set you up for success!

Thank you Lynnie! 😊 I couldn’t agree more. Since we’re getting married in July, our reception venue told us to reconvene in January. We might have a better understanding of what to expect at that time. We’re a bit anxious as the months continue dwindling down. I’m a big believer in Plan B haha! Rest assured, I’m certain we’ll have a beautiful wedding! Thank you so much for your advice.
