Joint parent dance? Or keep them separate?

Lauren, on May 29, 2019 at 7:01 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
So I'm at a loss here.
I already know of at least 2 songs I'd love to dance with my dad to. I knew these songs before I even met my husband. (Recently married but planning large reception.)
But once we started planning our wedding and reception, I figured we would do a joint dance to cut on time where the guests are just sitting and watching us.
I can not find a song that fits! Most the songs I hear are too much about a lover rather than a parent. The father-daughter songs are very obviously father-daughter songs. Lol. I want something like that but for both parents!

Now I'm thinking about just keeping the two dances separate and just doing all our dances while our guests eat..so they arent just sitting there with nothing to do while we dance.

Thoughts? Keep the dances joined or separated? Song suggestions for a joint parent dance?

Maybe Landslide? Also, if you don't want to do a combined dance, you could just fade the songs in and out. That's what I plan to do. I'll likely do the parent dances for a minute and a half each.

I thought about doing something like that if I were to do them separate. The hubs wrinkled his nose at the idea of not doing a full song. Hahaha! Maybe I can convince him.

I agree with Steph on fading the songs so they're shorter and then keeping them separate. I know as a guest it gets boring (and awkward honestly) if any of the dances are super long songs because everyone's just standing/sitting around staring lol. We plan to fade our parent dances and possibly even our first dance out after a minute and a half-two minutes.

Right, that's why I was thinking we would do then while everyone ate. Haha!

I personally would feel kind of weird watching dances while eating dinner. I've seen this done while dessert is being served but not dinner. Dinner is usually when people catch up with who they are sitting with, I wouldn't want to feel like I have to watch the dances while eating. It just seems awkward to me in my opinion. If it were me I would keep them separate from dinner (maybe during dessert being served?) and either shorten the songs or maybe try to choose songs that aren't super long.

I considered this briefly but each parent wanted their own and I was happy to make them happy, so we did separate dances and faded them out early

That's true. And hubs already said no to the idea before you responded. Ha! He said "when they eat, I wanna eat!" Smiley tongue he would feel the same way about dessert too haha.

I'm thinking we will just do two separate songs. I just can not find a single song that works for both parents.

My fiancé and I are doing joint dance of Father/Daughter Mother/Son. We wanted to get it out of the way.

Makes sense. If choosing a sentimental song is important to you, it would be so hard to find one song that was sentimental to four people (two is hard enough!!)

I’m keeping them separate. My fiancé isn’t close to his mom and I just want to keep my dance with my dad separate because I know it will be very special for both of us. We are going to dance to “don’t blink” by Kenny Chesney and I’m sure we will BOTH be crying lol.

That's what we initially wanted to do...but I really do want a song that makes sense for both parents. And that's just not possible lol

I'll have to check that song out. I know I like butterfly kisses or I loved her first. Those both make me cry! Lol
