Michaela & Shane
Dedicated January 2016

Joint bride/father and groom/mother dance

Michaela & Shane, on September 26, 2015 at 8:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Did anybody do this? This is something we are considering because neither parent is too keen on being the center of attention. Any song recommendations? I'm thinking "Teach your Children" or "Forever Young".

I wish we could do this! But my dad loves attention lol. I hate being the center of attention though and so does FH... the whole wedding might be difficult on that front haha

We did that-- my dad, as well as MIL and DH are all very shy, so it worked better to have the floor more crowded (also cut down on the time the guests have to sit and watch non-professionals dance... I always hate that part at weddings!). We danced to "In My Life", by the Beatles.

Yes we are wanting to do this too, but we are having a difficult time finding a song! We don't want it to be really sappy, but also not anything too upbeat... :s I feel like there are definitely more songs for just father/daughter and son/mother Smiley sad

My friend had a shy dad so what they did was have the father/daughter and then mother/son dance by themselves for about a minute and then the DJ invited other father/daughters and mother/sons depending on the dance to join them on the dance floor. It was a really cool moment! If you will have families attending that might work!

You can edit the songs down to limit the time they'll be in the center of attention, but I also like the idea of sharing a dance, especially if you find a song that works for everyone. And you can also have any alternatives someone might have wanted play during the 'everyone dances' portion. Just know when the song should play so parent and bride or groom can be ready for it.

I wish my dad was here, and FH hates to dance. So I think we will be passing on this.

We're definitely considering this, as I have a somewhat strained relationship with my father and am not comfortable with the sappiness of just a father/daughter dance. Still looking for song choices, though!
