So I was talking to my FH today about getting a joint bank account just for wedding expenses. He was all for it! My question is: What has been your experience with joint bank accounts, especially if he makes way more than you. We already bought a home together and don't fight about money often, but...

I definitely had a hard time "losing" some of my independence. I'll admit, I had like 3 panic attacks during the home buying process and moving in together, but it's been great. I feel like now that he is paying so much more of the household bills and I don't have to worry as much, I think that's definitely a fair trade for some of my independence!

My FH and I have never had a joint bank account and we've been together 10 years. I think you kinda know if its a good idea, especially if you talk about money and savings. We've never done it because he makes more then me and I have a little shopping problem so I keep my spending money separate so I don't blow through his life savings in twenty seconds. We split certain things to pay ( he pays mortgage, I pay the cars etc...) I guess it just works for us.

My DH and I got a joint account shortly after we moved in together (25 years ago). For many years we just looked at our budget, split that in half, and each put in enough to cover rent, utilities, groceries, etc. When we had kids and I stopped working, of course that changed. Smiley sexy Best deicion we ever made was-- I pay the bills and he balances the account. That way we both have an idea how much we're spending and we both have a 'job' (although I don't think he really balances the account any more).

He is honestly in charge of most of the bill paying (they come mostly out of his account)...I just pay a couple, but we have a firm grip on who pays what, so it's easy. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts!

My husband and I both have a joint bank account. He absolutely hates it when I ask him what a certain charge is (although I am just checking, to see that there are no fraudulent activity). What I think is, stay open with your communication and financial point of views, and do what works best for the two of you. Being financial partners are very important in a lasting relationship and marriage. Best wishes!
