It’s not really a joining of families, but we are doing a hand-fasting ceremony

We didn't do a joining of the families ceremony, I've never heard of that, I don't think. We did do a hand binding inspired from GoT (wording), and from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wedding.

We're doing our Own version of the candle ceremony. Instead of our mothers lighting the candles, FH each light one candle and use our candle to light the middle one (idk the terms for those candles lol) and then we blow out each other's candles to symbolize the ending of our single lives and the beginning of our married lives together.

We opted for the sand because I have a 11 year old and we wanted him to take part in the unity ceremony so we got 3 colors instead of 2.

They also have a unity cross that you connect together. I thought that was pretty cool

I have two sons (college age) and they prefer not to talk!!! LOL!! They are my "Best Men" and I jokingly told them I was making them sing a duet. We are not doing anything special - FH has no kids. I thought about verbage in the ceremony: "Do you, Heckel and Jeckel, support your mom in her new marriage?" We decided it to pass.

I wrote our knot tying ceremony. My pastor loved it! It combined both God's Knot (which is essentially braiding three ropes) and the infinity knot (which is an actual knot). When i spread the loops out, it looks like a heart which will be displayed in a shadow box.

We are doing a handfasting also. We choose to do the unity candle thing at the insistence of the mothers as well.
