“Jobs” for family?

Tanya, on October 23, 2019 at 1:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hey all.
I am trying to assign roles to family/wedding party and I need any recommendations for what I may be missing. I know some people believe you shouldn’t ask your guests for help, but our wedding is mostly DIY without a planner, and I just need help from other brides that have done something similar. As much as I want them to have fun, I don’t want to worry about these little things. Also everyone has offered to help so I know family is willing to help.
Heres what I have so far:

Bring lunch to getting ready space: MOH
Getting ready drinks: Best man
Getting ready hype playlist: Bridesmaid for girls, groomsman for guys
Family “herders” (for photos): our sisters
Vendor payment: MOH

I'd recommend asking someone not in the bridal party that you can trust to assist with lining people up for the ceremony and reception. At my sister-in-law's wedding, her Aunt took charge of that. It made it easier for everyone because there was someone there to make sure the bridal party was there and that everyone was in order. That person can just line everyone up then go into the ceremony/reception before the bridal party.

Can you hire a DOC instead of assigning friends and family these jobs?

Girl, I'm so glad you brought this up. I am also struggling with how others can help and I LOVE that you've got someone in charge of bringing you food. I need to do that!

Our budget didn't allow for any coordinators either so it's all DIY. I am paying some teenage cousins to push Play and Stop for our ceremony music, and to keep an eye on the front door during the ceremony (we're having a back yard bbq and don't want randos off the street to just walk in while nobody's inside because they're all out back watching us get married and we get robbed blind! Haha!) But other than that I'm stuck on what tasks to give away so we're in the same boat.

Would love to see others' suggestions!

Luckily ours is at a venue so we don’t need front door guards!! That’s a great idea on your part though! I would have never thought to do that

I was too, but our venue is kinda in the middle of nowhere with very limited cell service and no WiFi and I didn’t want to risk it 😬 gotta keep my bridal party fed!

Shortly after the reception has started, ask someone you trust to take your gifts/cards out to a locked vehicle. My wedding venue event coordinator suggested that to us. My cousin actually had all her wedding cards stolen out of her card box, which included literally $1000's of dollars

Other possible things you could need help with (I'm not sure what all you need done) Set out favors, set tables, help with decorations, clean up, someone to make sure everyone signs the guest book, make a list of everything you need the day of the wedding and have someone check it, twice. That's all I have off the top of my head

It worked out really well for my sister-in-law! And it was something I never would have thought of otherwise. There's always someone that wants to help, don't be afraid to give them a task!!

Right! It was awful. She actually ended up accusing me and my sister bc we left a little early. I dont know if she ever figured out who really took it bc we stopped talking after that
