Jewish Weddings...what did you do with your broken glass?

hellohellobuffalo, on November 17, 2017 at 2:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Just curious, what did you do with your broken glass? We'd like to incorporate it into a decorative piece in our home (like the attached image).

But I'm wondering what other people did. Smiley smile

Many of my couples don't use an actual glass; they use a lightbulb or a Christmas ball...so no need to save. The couples who DO have a decorative piece made out of an actual glass usually have a mezuzah (spelled wrong....) or a photo frame.

We're definitely getting a real glass. Yes, we're spending money on a glass that we're purposefully breaking. ;D

I've seen pretty mezuzahs made out of the broken glass. Look into some of the Jewish companies that sell those things and see if they have recommendations or know of services that make art with the glass.

We had blown glass from Israel that went with a sent of Shabbos candle holders and you're supposed to put the glass in there. The problem is FIL and his gf gave us the candle holders and she was a NIGHTMARE planning/at our wedding so I feel like its bad juju putting them in that. We are having ours made into a mezuzah.

Since I am not Jewish I cannot help with what to do with the broken glass or if you should keep it, but I love the idea you have it is beautiful!

I am not Jewish either, so I cannot provide any suggestions. The picture you posted looks beautiful though, and I think it would be a great way to remember your day!

We used a lightbulb and I forgot all about it. I just asked my husband, our venue cleaned it up. It is gone! Aww. I love your picture though.

We used a generic glass and it didn't occur to us to do anything with it. Oh well! Presumably the venue cleaned it up and threw it out.

ETA @krclark7 looking at this post makes me wish I had kept it! @OP I think your idea is beautiful.

@emma - I didn't think to do anything with it either! Our venue just tossed it.
