Jenga Guest Book

Brittany, on November 29, 2018 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am thoroughly exploring my guest book options (I feel like every other month I post about a new one on here Smiley winking ). This month is the Jenga block guest book lol

Oriental Trading sells sets of the blocks specifically for this, they come in sets of 51.

How many would you buy if you're inviting 150ish guests?

I was thinking 2 sets, assuming at least some couples/families will sign together, and some older people may not even understand and not sign any at all (I saw this at the last wedding we went to that did a Polaroid guest book). I feel like if I bought a third set and have one for each person, a lot would end up blank at the end of the night...

So really my question is what would you do? How do you sign a guest book at a wedding? As a couple/family? Or individually?

Adding: I have thought about waiting til we get RSVPs back and a more realistic idea of numbers, but I don't think we'd be able to get them shipped in time at that point. So basically this would be a best guess. I feel like around 100 is the safer bet, but please tell me what you think!

I really like this idea! I think 2 sets of 50 is perfect. You're right - most families will sign together, as will most couples.

We always sign as a couple! I think 2 sets should work fine. People can also maybe sign multiple sides, if their messages are short.

You can actually buy the real Jenga game for less $ at Target, Walmart, etc., and potentially also save shipping. (And you can wait buy it after RSVPs come in or during a major Christmas sale, etc....) Daughter is doing this for her guest book in January. We're expecting ~110 guests, and she bought two game sets (54 blocks each, I think). We tested markers and found the extra fine tip Shapie pens work best, with no bleeding. (We actually took a block to Michael's -- where they have all the pens in an open display -- and tested a bunch until she found the ones she wanted.)

Yeah I'm looking now at Amazon actually, but Oriental Trading has free shipping and % off, and I'm also buying other things lol that's the only reason I asked.

Thanks for the tip on the markers!

I would probably sign them together. Are they large blocks, to where people could sign multiple sides and it wouldn't be 1 person per block? The two weddings I've been in, the wedding party signed the guest book first to kind of show people how to sign it and make it obvious what to do! So I assume what they do will set the tone for what other people do. I always sign guests books for me & my fiance.

That's a good idea, to have some family and friends sign first as an example Smiley smile

The blocks are just regular size Jenga blocks, so they could do their names on one side and a short message on another, or one name per side for a family, or whatever other combination there is lol

We did this for my bridal shower and it was super cute. They made a nice box for it with the wedding date and our names. The blocks gave people lots of space to write, too. At a wedding I'd sign as a couple, there should be plenty of space on the block for that. I think two sets would be enough, and if you have extras you can just toss them.

    Know your friends....

My FH's friend did this at his wedding and got twice as many as guests. This is because he knew that all of the fraternity brothers would do one nicely and the other with a (somewhat inappropriate) story or quote from college. I would say if that sounds like your crowd, get extra, if your crowd is likely to just write the name of the couple, get less.

That's great! Smiley xd I think most of our people will do the bare minimum, but I think there should be a few extra if people want to get "creative" lol assuming most people sign as couples and families

We had people sign a frame and it was mixed. I'd say maybe 75% of the couples signed together. But there were some of my aunts and uncles who signed individually.

With the jenga pieces it might be nice to set one at each place setting with pens in the center, kind of forcing people to sign think about what they want to write, if they want.

I'd also test the pens you plan on using on a sample piece, as felt tip can bleed into the wood causing signatures and well wishes to be blurred. Standard sharpies are also a bit fat to try to write on a small wood piece.

Definitely planning on testing Sharpies first! A PP who has done this before gave a good recommendation for which to get, so I'm ahead of the game there Smiley smile thank you for your input!
