Jamaica destination wedding for 150 people

J, on September 6, 2017 at 9:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hello Wedding Wire Community! I am so happy I found this forum platform! I need some help!My fiancee and I are looking to be married in Jamaica next fall 2018. She lives in NY, but I live here in Jamaica. We both have a lot of family and church family and don't really want to live anyone out especially since the wedding will be all the way here, so we've settled on 150 guests (praying we don't have to go over). My fiancee never really wanted a destination wedding, however because the majority of my family and church family are unable to travel to the states because they do not have travelling visas we have decided to have the wedding here in Jamaica. Any ideas of locations that will be able to accommodate 150 wedding guests? Also what are some things that can make this destination wedding a pleasant experience for out-of-town guests? Any suggestions or ideas at all will be of great help! We've tried doing a lot of research and we're just overwhelmed..sigh*.

Welcome to WeddingWire. First, I would suggest having the wedding in Montego Bay, Kingston or if you are having it in Negril or Ocho Rios to help arrange transportation for them. Second, reserve a block of rooms for your OOT guests. Third, part of your location decision is dependent on how much work you want to do (re: a venue that has everything there or you have to bring everything to the site). My brother did his wedding at a villa in Ocho Rios and had to bring in everything (tables, chairs, food, alcohol, etc.)

Check out the hotels in Kingston also.

ETA: I'd also arrange tours or events for folks to see the country and get to know each other.

Hi J.A. As a Floridian, I urge you to reconsider your dates or to purchase wedding insurance. As you can see, the fall is prime hurricane season and it's a very real possibility of your wedding being disrupted by weather.

Thanks for your responses! We were thinking about renting out a guesthouse for some OOT guests to stay in for 2 or 3 days during the wedding weekend. We definitely do not want to have to bring in anything and would prefer have a venue where things are already prepared.

Hi J, fellow Jamaican here *waves*
I am apart of the industry and I recommend the Aqueduct at Rosehall, Bellefield Greathouse or RoseHall Great house. These venues are beautiful and have a mixture of garden/ocean views for you to choose from and can easily accommodate 150 guests.
I also recommend that you get a planner so that everything comes together perfectly so you and your fiance can enjoy your wedding.
For out of town guests, you will definitely need somewhere for them to say, A villa is a great idea. A little welcome/ thank you package would also be a nice touch.

Let me know if you need further assistance Smiley smile
