j engagement ring thoughts

Hi Ladies!

I’m a newbie on here. My sweet fiancée chose a lovely vintage engagement ring that we had looked at when we were visiting an antique shop. I thought it was the most stunning ring I had ever seen in person when we saw it. It is a platinum Art Deco setting and the center Diamond is a European cut 1.5ct SI J excellent cut/polish/symmetry (per appraisal that came with it). I didn’t notice in the store, but now wearing it around and at home I am seeing quite a bit of “warmth” or “tint” to the center stone in certain lighting. It is full of fire and character and face up it often looks white. This is the first time I have owned a diamond and the ones I have seen in person on family/friends always appear to be the same white color. Does anyone have a similar diamond to mine? Is this color fairly normal with older diamonds? Thank you in advance for reading and I appreciate feedback if anyone is able to comment Smiley smilej engagement ring thoughts 1

The color of the diamond as well as clarity is part of the 4 C’s that determine a diamonds worth. Cut, color, clarity, and carat. They will determine the value of the diamond. When it is sold or appraised they will look at these factors. j engagement ring thoughts 3
This chart will help explain. If you love your diamond then it’s perfect.

That’s a beautiful ring! I think a J colour diamond does have a bit more colour in it, and it may be that it is more obvious due to the older cut. If you’re worried about whether the appraisal was accurate, you can always get an independent expert to look at it for you. But as others have said, if you love the ring then that’s the most important thing!

I also have an art deco diamond (It's from 1917 so it's actually a little bit older), and it also has more warmth to it. It also has the bottom point flat, because that was in style back then. I have colorless diamonds on the band around it, but I think it makes the "champagne" color pop! It definitely looks different in different lighting. If you really wanna feel special, look at it in dim light and candlelight! I love my ring so much, the history, the character, and the fact that it's conflict-free.

That’s the J color. Usually that’s the “lowest” color the GIA will certify hence the warmth. If anything, I’d embrace it more by changing the setting to yellow gold.

That is a gorgeous ring!!! No two diamonds are the same, so I wouldn't worry at all about the fact that it's a little more "warm" than others youve seen

Thank you everyone! I am fascinated by history and love the look of many things “vintage”. I was curious when I first noticed the tint, but I didn’t give it much thought until a coworker commented. While my coworkers and I were eating lunch together, one coworker asked why my diamond was “so brown” and held her very white diamond next to mine for comparison. I was like “Oh”. (I secretly was embarrassed and tucked in the bathroom for a moment to hide myself tearing up a little). My ring wasn’t super expensive, but my fiancée worked so many hours of overtime to save up for a ring he saw that I loved. I love my ring so much, and even more than that I love the fact that he worked so hard just for me.

Your ring is absolutely gorgeous! The center stone is exquisite, and the diamonds and delicate detailing surrounding the ring make it even more glorious!

Yours is gorgeous too! Tell your coworker to mind her manners! Warmth can add character, and your ring has a history to go with its beauty.

The point in showing my ring, is that mine is also "brown," and the cut on the bottom would never be accepted nowadays because the light doesn't bounce around the same way (again it comes to a flat facet rather than a point underneath). But it's still beautiful! And unusual! Anyone can own a round solitaire with baguettes, yours is unique and lovely!

Your coworker was rude, frankly. That’s a really weird question to ask.

I’ve never given an ounce of thought to the color of a person’s diamond (don’t notice and wouldn’t care if I did). I don’t even presume everyone wants a diamond or a white/clear looking stone and I don’t presume their preferences have a darn thing to do with anything and especially not me. Some people have other stones because they were more affordable, some people have other stones because it’s just what they like better, some people have other stones because they have issues with diamonds ....and none of it matters!
Your ring is gorgeous. I love that it has a little extra character !!
