Ivory shirts? Grooms tie matches? What to do

FutureMrsW, on September 26, 2017 at 9:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hello! I had originally planned out for my FH to wear a blush tie the same as the groomsmen however the folks at men's wearhouse said their shirts should be ivory and he should match me. Now they are renting but he had a custom suit and I'm having a hard time finding a nice ivory shirt and I have NO IDEA what color tie...Pinterest helps but I cannot find the items they show on there. Should I just stuck to the blush tie and not care if he matches me? I didn't care before...and my bouquet will have blush roses.

Sorry if there are typos! This is my first post and I'm frantic because the wedding is in 11 days!

There is no reason for him to have to match you if neither of you care about it. Do what you had originally planned!!! It will be perfect regardless of these tiny details. Don't sweat it!! There are plenty of nicer things to focus on 11 days out from your wedding. Things that won't stress you out so much

I don't understand what you mean by match you. Are you wearing a blush dress? Are they saying that his tie should be cream? Also, I would ignore MW's advice for GM and your FH to wear ivory shirts. They told my husband the same thing - they had him worried that a white shirt would make my light ivory dress look dirty. It didn't. On the other hand, the ivory shirts look dirty. And the reason you are having trouble finding a nice ivory shirt to purchase is because ivory shirts don't exist outside of the rental world. Find a nice white shirt instead (and have the GM in white shirts).

Blush is totally fine! I had the same dilemma of whether to have FH match me, or match the groomsmen, and I ultimately decided he should just match the groomsmen. Your original thought was perfect! Just roll with it Smiley smile

He doesn't have to match you if you don't want him to. I guarantee you, every single guest will still know he's the groom! go with what you want

He should NOT wear an ivory shirt. It will look dirty. I've learned quickly through FH's suit buying experience that many of the salespeople at MW have no idea what the hell they're doing. Go with your gut and vision and don't let them sway you.

The folks at Mens Wearhouse give out this misinformation all the time!

Men are not accessories for the women. They should wear what looks best on them, not match the bride's dress. You didn't say if they are wearing suits or tuxedos, but in neither case is an ivory shirt necessary. The shirts will look dingy.

And no, calm your fears. Your dress will not look dingy or dirty if the men wear white shirts.

Call them back, change the order to white shirts.

Your FI's tie need not match your dress. He can choose a tie that looks good with his suit.

We originally thought we should pick ivory shirts for DH and the GM because my dress was ivory lace on top of champagne. The thing is, the MW shade of ivory is very off-white, and looks kind of dirty and yellowed. Something prompted me to bring my dress into a MW and ask to hold both the ivory and white shirts next to my dress. Their ivory did not match my ivory. The ivory lace on my dress was a perfect match to their white shirt, plus with champagne under my lace, my dress read a little more like blush and it really didn't look right next to the I've shirt that read more yellow.

Short version: take your dress in and ask to hold it up to the shirts. You may find white shirts will complement it better.

We are renting tuxes from Men's Warehouse and to be honest, the ivory looked like a dirty white shirt. We ended up using a white shirt and ivory tie even though my dress is ivory lace over a light champagne.

I had an ivory dress and my husband rented a suit from men's warehouse. He wore a white shirt and we were told the ivory shirt might clash with my dress. Don't listen to them and try to go back with your original plan. In my opinion ivory and white look great and use the blush tie you originally wanted.

(Sorry I'm a cry baby in this photo)

They guys shirts are ivory and they are wearing grey suits with vest and blush bow tie...the ivory looks good with his custom suit but the issue is that they made me worry with the whole "it will make your dress look dingy" sales tactic
