Ivory Dress... White Shirt?

Agata, on January 27, 2012 at 1:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hey ladies! I need input. My dress is ivory, but I am leaning towards my FH and his GMs wearing white shirts with their black suits. Do you think this will look okay even though my dress technically isn't "white"? All the ivory shirts that I've seen look grossly dingy/dirty because they are so yellowish and not remotely similar to the color of my dress. Thoughts, please!

The chick at our Mens Wearhouse suggested FH's shirt be darker than my dress so that my dress pops in the photos. My dress is kind of a diamond white, not really a true creamy ivory.

Honestly- I don't know if it really matters all that much.

Won't your dress "pop", regardless, if your FH is in a black suit? Smiley laugh

I've heard so many versions of this in different stores ... :-) My dress was darker because it was champagne and DH's shirt was very soft ivory. It looked fine. It doesn't matter that much. There's no way you don't pop in a wedding gown lol!

Mrs. S is right! Unless there's gonna be a bunch of other women in wedding dresses. White'll be fine for the shirts. White goes with everything. Even Ivory.

I think if he has an ivory/pearl/light taupe/etc tie it will work.

But this one just makes the brides dress look dingy.

So I guess it matters what shade your dress is.

I'm stuck on this. Depending on how dark of an ivory your dress is, it could make your dress look dingy (like the pic above) but if it's a lighter ivory I think it would be fine.

I am going crazy with this as well. My dress is classified as ivory but there isn't much difference between it and the white garment bag it's in. FH wants to wear a grey tux ...ivory shirt with grey tux?

Ivory & ivory will look fine, even if they're not *exactly* the same ivory. We got an ivory vest/tie for DH since my dress was ivory. From afar, you couldn't tell at all (1st pic below). Up close, yes, you can see the difference (2nd pic below), but really - no one will be looking that closely except you - your guests are looking at the big picture. Go for the big picture - I agree that a white shirt will make your ivory dress look dingy. But if you're not sure and you have your dress already, test it out - hold up a white shirt next to it, and see what you think.

I could barely tell the difference between the white and ivory shirt. Like Hayley, we went with an ivory vest and tie for DH. It looked great.

FMC quit stealing my thunder! Smiley smile That's what FH is wearing. The MW chick assembled it and it looked great.

Ivory shirt grey tux ivory tie/vest /- color differentiation due to your computer screen =

(Okay oops that's actually the champagne tie/vest. But you get the idea.)

My dress is a very light ivory, and the tux shirts we were looking at seemed a whole lot darker. We decided to go with white shirts and the Ivory tie/vest.

Thanks ladies. My dress is a very subtle ivory, so I'm almost positive the white shirt will still look nice with my dress and not make it look dingy. I'll definitely take Ashley's suggestion and hold a white shirt next to my dress, just to be sure! Smiley smile
