Dedicated October 2022

It’s here!

Just got the call that my wedding dress is in!! My wedding is in October, and I wasn’t expecting my dress to come in for about another 3 months. I have an appointment next week to try it on and take it home. I have lost a lot of weight since I ordered it. Since we’re still 6 months away from the wedding, is it too early for alterations? Do I wait until closer to then? Also, do I have to wear anything special to this “trying on” appointment or is that for alterations? I’m a little lost here, so any information on the whole process is much appreciated.

Awesome that your dress arrived early!! I would wait until around 3-4 months before your wedding to start alterations, but it couldn't hurt to call around now to get general pricing info and to schedule the appointment!

Yay! The "try-on" appointment is mostly just to make sure the dress that came in is the right one, any requested customizations were done right, etc. It'll still probably need alterations, so don't panic if it doesn't fit right. You could wear any undergarments you were considering just to see how they look underneath, but no need to worry about shoes or anything just yet.

Most alterations are done 1-3 months out, over several appointments. My first appointment was 2 months out, and my next (and hopefully last) is 1 month out (this week!).

It depends on the seamstress. I’ll be getting married in October also. Mine is very busy so and I just got my dress and was told I will need to make my first appointment about 4 months out

My dress came in two weeks after I ordered it, instead of 6-8 months later (whoops). I picked it up from the salon then actually took it straight to my seamstress (mostly so it was in an insured place). We tried it one so she could see it and get a feel for what the alterations might be, and she did require half of my payment to hold the dress. My wedding isn't until August, so I have another appointment with her in May (about 3 months out, per her request) to try it back on, re-pin it, and get started with alterations!

I really like that your seamstress can hold onto it for you! We have a few pets and I’m terrified of something happening to it in the house.

I’ve recently started asking around for recommendations for a seamstress. The bridal shop I got my dress at has someone but it’s also ridiculously expensive. I’ll see what all needs to be done when I try my dress on. Thank you!

Thank you for the info! I was freaking out about the accessories and whatnot. Like, I haven’t gotten that far yet 😅
