Itchy wedding dresses!

FutureMrs.White, on April 29, 2016 at 9:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

What experiences have you had trying on dresses or even picking a dress that felt itchy? I always imagined myself in lace with sleeves. I have tried on a lot of dresses with sleeves, even just cap sleeves and felt so itchy and uncomfortable, I couldn't believe it! They were a mixture of designers and I even went to a higher end bridal shop. I tried on a beautiful lace strapless with a corset back that I ended up loving and it might be "the one." I just don't want to give up on the sleeve idea if there could be one out there. Maybe I shouldn't have read that dress regret thread last week!

Hmm... I don't recall thinking that any of the dresses were itchy. I remember thinking that some of them were ungodly heavy... If you are reacting to materials then I would go with the strapless you liked. You don't want to wind up itchy and rash covered at your wedding!

I tried on a halter dress with a very poofy ballgown tulle bottom. The halter was ITCHY, and the tulle bottom didn't feel very nice either. Plus crinoline underneath, which is scratchy. It was a very pretty dress and I didn't even consider it because it felt so awful on my arms.

Ended up in a strapless satin a-line. I will say though that almost all the veils I tried on were super scratchy tulle until I found a super soft one in a consignment shop. It feels like water in my fingers, I bought it instantly. I'm sure you can find what you want somewhere! But, if you already love the one you found, go try it on again and see.

The ones that had crinoline under them were a little itchy. The dress i ended up with has charmeuse underneath. Having that against my legs was heaven!!

Thanks ladies! The first dress I tried on last night was what I thought would be the one.. It was a halter with a double key hole back. It itched so bad my chest was all red immediately! I think I will definitely go back to try on the one I loved. I probably had a slight attitude (in my head only) by the time I got to it because I was so frustrated with the first 6-7 dresses being so uncomfortable.

I thought nearly every dress with any beading or lace was painfully itchy.

My best friend diagnosed me a sdp in the bridal shop.

You want to look happy not uncomfortable.

My BM did a bolero but it didn't look like it at all! I didn't even know until she took it off. If you get one that matches maybe you can deal with the itch for he ceremony and remove it for the reception?

I'm definitely thinking about a bolero!! I actually really like the idea of that and being able to remove it for the reception.

@erin c. brain fart... What's a sdp? I agree, the lace and beading was all itchy on my chest/neck/back. How do the models do it?! Lol.

I always imagined myself with lace sleeves as well but some of them were super itchy and most of them made me look like a weird blob because they blended in with my pale skin. Smiley sad Oh well, thinking about a cape over top instead.

The only itchy ones I found were at DB. I was shocked at how different the fabrics felt than at the bridal salon where I ended up getting my dress. Mine has lace cap sleeves and the lace feels light and soft. I think it also depends on your skin sensitivity.

I like the bolero suggestion too, might be a good compromise.

Some lace sleeves i tried on were very itchy, but mine's not at all! I also have very sensitive skin, and the bottom is organza so It's all around a wonderful piece

    SPD is sensory processing disorder.

I cut tags off clothes too... cause ugh.

My friend is a behavioral therapist...so she meant it actually.

I had the same problem. My FMIL loved this gown that really was very pretty on me but the lace on top was so stiff and scratchy. I couldn't imagine wearing it for an entire day. The one I ended up getting does have lace sleeves but the lace is very soft and didn't itch at all. If you really want that look, look around, you might find it.
