FH Mom’s friend is a travel agent so she set it all up. There are some reputable travel agents I’ve seen post on here, so I’m sure you could find one in the WW community or even with a google search for your area.

Italy is beautiful! If you will be in Rome or any other city actually, take the train to Florence, it was definitely my favorite city in Italy. Very romantic and so full of love! I flew to Venice from Rome and it was a better deal than taking the train. $100 roundtrip!

So, my top three suggestions are Rome, Florence and Venice.

As far as money exchange, I thought I could walk into my bank and exchange dollars for Euros then and there but there was actually a process to it. I had to place an "order" for Euros and then pick them up when they arrived so you might want to do that a few weeks before the trip. You can of course, withdraw money from the atm or exhange it once you are in Italy but it's good to arrive with some ready to go.

I LOVE Italy!

Make sure if you want to do any of the touristy stuff (Coliseum, Vatican, etc) to set up a tour time with pre-bought tickets. If you just go, the lines are always CRAZY. We got to totally skip a line at the Coliseum that was over a block long because we had tickets already Plus, if you can get a tour of the underground tombs at the Vatican, it is totally worth it!

Florence was beautiful, but Capri was my absolute favorite. I took a tour with Go Ahead Tours, the grand tour of italy. It was awesome and they took care of everything (hotels, transportation to each city, admission to attractions, etc etc). I'd suggest taking a tour, it's less stressful and with go ahead, we were able to ditch the tour most of the time and only use the group for the bus rides to each city.

For day tours we used a company called Context. They have small groups (6 or less) and the guides are very knowledgable with many of them having masters or phds.

We took a cruise last year and it was the best way to go for us. Venice and Rome are definitely must see places! In Rome we took a day tour through Rome in Limo and they were absolutely wonderful! We pre purchased our tickets to the Vatican and the Colosseum and hired a tour guide to take us through the Vatican, Money definitely well spent! Our tour guide with Rome in Limo helped us bypass all the lines and walked us right inside! We absolutely LOVED Venice.

Its is definitely doable on your own with some good tour books. Rick Steve's has some great ones that I highly recommend. You can even download his free podcasts which are a wealth of information.

As for money, we went to Wells Fargo and converted some dollars to euros beforehand. The majority of our money was converted in Italy through the ATMs. Get a Capital One Visa card since there is no foreign exchange fee when using the card overseas.

Also, check with your bank regarding the fee to use the overseas ATM. We had a credit union and there was no fee, but I know the big banks do charge and its not cheap.

If you go to Florence, make sure to take a padlock with a key. On the Ponte Vecchio, newlywed put their lock on the bridge with their names written on it!

My advice? Pick up a Rick Steve's travel book and do every single thing he says. We used his books for travel through Italy, Germany, and Austria and they were spot on and perfect!
