Issues with domain renewal

Kate, on January 5, 2021 at 5:11 PM Posted in Account Support 2 6

I purchased and activated a premium wedding website domain via WeddingWire. There are now 4 days until the expiration of my purchase, and I have yet to receive a prompt for renewal within the website editor. Can you please assist me through the domain renewal process?

DETAILS

I purchased and activated a premium wedding website domain for $35 on Friday, January 10, 2020 via WeddingWire.

By July 2020, it was apparent that Trevor and I would be unable to have the wedding we had envisioned. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and a concern for the safety of loved ones, Trevor and I postponed our wedding celebration.

Shortly after making this decision, I contacted WeddingWire Support to inquire about the domain renewal process.

The WeddingWire Support representative who responded to my inquiry said that my purchase is set to expire on Saturday, January 9, 2021. It was my understanding that I would be prompted to renew my domain purchase 30 days prior to this expiration date. Therefore, as suggested, I set a calendar reminder for domain renewal on Thursday, December 9, 2020.

On December 10, when I had not received a domain renewal prompt via email or in-app, I contacted WeddingWire Support, requesting information and assistance (122670). Unfortunately, the instruction provided was not only insufficient but also incorrect. Then, the representative corrected herself, advising that I continue to log into my WeddingWire account for another week and search for a renewal prompt...

The following day, I requested additional help (123073). In reply, the representative copied and pasted a response from the previous request thread, stating that I should have received a prompt to renew 30 days prior to the expiration date. That date had already passed...

There are now 4 days until the expiration date, and I have yet to receive a prompt for renewal, clear instructions on where/how to locate this prompt, or alternative methods of renewal.

I scoured WeddingWire's site for another resource. The only one I found listed similar information as was provided to me in July:

If you would like to keep your domain active, please follow the pop up instructions that will appear within your wedding website editor up to 30 days before your domain expires. If you have any trouble with your domain renewal, please reach out to us at help@weddingwire.com as soon as possible. We are currently unable to retrieve domains that have expired in our system.

I contacted WeddingWire Support, the admin/registrant, and the registrar about this and the issue still isn't resolved. Has anyone had luck with renewing a domain they purchased via WeddingWire?

Most people are using Withjoy.com or Wix instead.

Hi! I am having the same issue. I paid WW to renew my domain name, but today I discovered that it was not actually renewed. Did you have any luck resolving this issue with WW? I am looking into the option of transferring the domain to GoDaddy so that I can rebuild my website elsewhere. Were you by chance able to get a transfer code to transfer the domain?

Hey, Taylor. Hope you're doing well – to be completely candid, it took me well over 6 months to coordinate with WeddingWire and EuroDNS to transfer the domain. This process caused a lot of undue stress.

Unless you're in love with your domain, I suggest that you start from scratch.

In the end, my now-husband and I chose to use the builder WedSites . We were really pleased with their features and customer support; I cannot recommend them enough!

If you choose to move forward with the transfer, do research; learn about your options and what best suits your skill set and needs. You could request a transfer of the domain to another builder, but the registrant will remain the same (and so will your expiration date). You could request a transfer between registrants, but then you'd be responsible for the upkeep of the domain, which can be a lot of responsibility. etc...

    Hi Kate,

I see you were able to have a resolution to your request after 6 months of coordination with both Wedding Wire and EuroDNS to transfer the domain. Could you advise the steps you took in requesting this? I saw in a different thread that you mentioned you submitted a request to attain management but I am unsure if that request was submitted via Wedding Wire or EuroDNS (or both!).

I have already printed 200 save the dates (rookie mistake) and would like to not have to reprint them because I have to change the domain name. Any insight is appreciated!

    Thanks, Alexandra
