Hi brides, do you have trouble finding makeup artists that understand your East Asian features (particularly, the rounder face and almond shaped eyes)?
I founds several MUA who have shown me samples of work from past East Asian clients, but my friends and I both think they were made up as if they had Western features, and the makeup made the eyes look even smaller and brows look angry.
So far I am very surprised at the lack of diversity in advertisement in the salon around my area (Boston, Providence), so it's been hard for me to screen for artists who are familiar with my features by looking at their portfolio. Sadly, yesterday I asked for a sample of East Asian client photo and the salon owner got really offended and snapped at me! The last person who told me she can do all ethnicity did such a bad job for me I ended up wiping out before the engagement photoshoot and did it myself.
How should I approach this problem? Again, I am not asking for an Asian markup artist, but someone who has the versatility to adapt to different facial structures and is open minded about it.
P.S. There are 1 or 2 artists in my area who specialized in Asian makeup, but because of their monopoly, they charged 2-3 times more than industry price and it's way out of my budget ($400-500+).
