Is wearing black to a wedding not ok?

I've worn black before but I feel like lately people have been telling me it's not good to wear black as a guest. Some bridesmaids wear black though. Plus I plan on wearing colorful shoes and a necklace. Is it a big deal? Just curious if you've thought twice about it.

I would not even think twice about wearing black to a wedding...and I have no issue at all if someone else wears black to my wedding. But I also read an article out a wedding mag just this past week that said pretty much everything is ok other than wearing white or black to a wedding lol.

I've always been told to not wear an exclusively black dress to a wedding and would feel odd and out of place if I did. If it is a pattern that has black in it then its fine. Any of the weddings I have been at recently have not had anyone in black (besides tuxes), and I would guess that no one will show up to my wedding in black either.

Not saying its right or wrong, just my personal experience.

My mother-in-law wore a beautiful, black flowy sort of pant with a black top. She looked amazing. I am all for black, white, or whatever at weddings.

I'm not a fan, I wouldn't tell my guests not to, but if they asked I'd say stray from ivory, white, or black. I never wear those colors myself to a wedding (unlesas I'm the bride! ; ))

ABSOLUTELY you can have black! I've attended two weddings in L.A. where the BRIDES wore black gowns...and stunningly so. That is not typical, but it's the brides day, so... I have also attended weddings where the wedding party all wore black with the exception of the bride and again...stunning. I think the trick is to add color everywhere else at the venue(s). One thing I don't see often is guests wearing black (ladies only, since we all know men will opt for one suit color to be worn at weddings...and funerals). Usually black dresses are quite fine at nighttime weddings and receptions. Thank God we're not stuck in a time where the color of your dress matters so much. I would far rather see a cute little black dress on a guest than having hardly any dress on at all.
