Is Uplighting Necessary?

My fiance and I are starting to look around for DJs. I need a little education on the subject of uplighting. I really dislike the look of a wedding when the whole room is glowing in a purple or blue (or any color) light. I don't need strobe or those colored light circles flying around the floor. Does a DJ's uplighting offer something different than these things? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have never hired a DJ before.

When I picture my wedding I picture a dimly lit room with lots of twinkle lights and tea lights. Do I need uplighting to complete this look?

Talk to you photographer who knows you, knows your venue and the look you are going for. If you're lucky, you picked one who has already worked there and can send you samples of what it looked like with and without uplighting. Then you can choose what you want. For some venues, it can be a real blessing (and doesn't have to look cheap with the crazy colors). At others it's just overkill.

I think the real question is "Will My Wedding Look Better Without Uplighting" I'm a realest when it comes to detail. YES you should use uplighitng if you can afford it. Every wedding looks better with uplighting properly placed. I'm not a DJ nor do I own uplighting, but I know for a fact because I take a lot of pictures :-) Hope this helps..
