Is Trash the Dress Even a Thing Anymore?

Sakinna, on September 28, 2020 at 5:37 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
So... because we had such a small wedding (25 people) we only had our photographer for an hour and a half. I am considering getting more pics in my wedding dress but feel a bit vain... lol. Are there any brides out there who have done Trash the Dress photos you can share or anyone else thinking about doing them? I probably should’ve done bridal pics but with COVID and other obstacles, I never got around to it...

You could always do an anniversary shoot with your spouse in your wedding clothes. 😊 I only know of one person who did and shared photos from a trash the dress shoot. Doesn’t mean people don’t do it anymore, just not common in my circle and not for me personally.

Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen trash the dress photo shoots in a long time - they were all the rage for awhile! Personally, I love them! I think it’s time you bring them back! 😉

I'm not a fan of these, but to each their own.

We are doing a post-wedding photoshoot before leaving for our honeymoon. You can always get bridal portraits done after the fact!

As soon as I "met" my dress, I knew I would be keeping it. Prior to that, I considered selling it after (as I had considered buying mine secondhand), or donating it to the place that makes gowns for stillborn babies. I would think re-using the dress somehow would be a better choice than destroying it.

Oh, I have no intentions of literally trashing my dress! I like the pics where brides go to places not deemed “bridal”. Subways, train tracks, etc. Maybe I should’ve explained my meaning.

We didn't "trash the dress," but my husband and I did a photoshoot in the mountains with our same photographer the day after our wedding near where we stayed that night! you could totally get dressed up again and take some more photos in a place with some awesome views.

Oh yea, that’s way different! 😂 When I hear trash the dress it’s like rolling around in the dirt, jumping in the ocean, painting it, tearing it up. Literally destroying it by the end of the shoot. Now that I think further on this I did have one friend who had a burn the dress event (not photo shoot, just a small gathering of her very closest friends and fam) to release bad blood from her ex and their wedding/marriage. 👀

What you have in mind sounds like a fun way to relive the experience of wearing your dress while also showing your personality in the different poses and locations! Do it!

So I am figuring out that no one calls it trash the dress but people still take post wedding photos. It’s funny because the photography company I used for my wedding still used the terminology on their website as an option. Thank you!

Oh yeah that's not what I was picturing! I think that would be a great idea! And I think what you're looking for is fairly common. Maybe try an elopement photographer - they tend to do more creative shots.
