Is this venue too expensive?

Private User, on February 2, 2016 at 6:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

It is a beautiful location and with our wedding in October we are very limited for options. They are also willing to hold our October 1st date and the owners are acquaintances. It would help us to have both ceremony and reception at one location. We can bring in our own caterer as well. I will post their event fees in a comment below.

Can someone please review and tell me your thoughts?? Is this too expensive or will we end up spending that much after renting everything ourselves anyway and possibly using two separate locations for ceremony and reception? How much are you spending overall? Our families are not able to help us financially so everything spent will be out of our pockets. We want to be cost effective but I also don't want to settle for something I'm not in love with just to save money. ..it's a tough call. Thanks in advance!

I personally think it's too much. Our venue is only costing about $5,000 but that includes tables, chairs, the space itself, dance floor, centerpieces, food, and drink. And uplighting and backdrop. Oh and it also includes the cakeSmiley smile have any pics of ur potential venue? Would love to see!

It honestly depends on your budget. If you have a large budget and will be able to properly host all of your guests with the remainder of your budget, then go for it. If $5000 is half or more than half of your budget, then I would keep looking.

We paid $4500 just to rent the building, where the ceremony and reception was held. The hotel that did the catering brought in the tables, chairs, linens, etc.

Hm, that is a lot. What's your budget?

My venue is $2500, including everything yours has with the exception of the lighting.

I am paying $5,500 to rent out the space for 12 hours to hold ceremony and reception. The fee only includes 8 ft table and insurance. I am at Los Angeles and when I was looking around, to me it was not considered expensive as other venues were way more expensive. Plus I really really love my venue so I was like "take my money!"

I think it really depends on your budget and how much you love the place

That sounds like a lot to not include any food or drink. Catering will be a huge chunk of your budget, so unless you have a big budget, then that's a lot to spend on a venue that doesn't include any of that.

It doesn't include food and beverage? In Wisconsin? That seems high to me. My son managed a beautiful venue in this area (DC, which is a high cost area) for $1,500.

That seems like a lot. I would expect that area to be less expensive than that though I'm not really familiar. Really depends on your total budget though.

Do you have another place in mind that you could compare too? It's hard not knowing what the average venue costs in that area.

Seems like a lot but then again mine is also a lot. Mine is $5500 for the space (full day 9am-11pm, many places only give you 4-6hrs) chairs, tables, the whole building (an old estate/winery), the grounds, all tableware, plates, stemware, nonalcoholic drinks, and DOC. so it's really what you want and what your budget allows.

I don't feel like it is a lot.... but then my venue is much more than that.... But to us it was worth it.

ETA: but then again we don't know your budget. If your budget is 10K, I say keep looking. If it is 25k+, I think it is a good deal if you love the venue...

That doesn't seem like too much to me. But mine was really expensive. I chose an "all inclusive" and it was 20k.

That seems really high. We looked into a barn venue where we would have the ceremony on their property and the reception in the barn and it included tables, chairs, rustic "coolers" to put drinks on ice in, lights, beautiful decor, parking, rehearsal time the day before, brides room, and more for only $2,000. We would just have to supply the caterer, linens, bartender, and whatever else we wanted. It was cheap but we went with another venue that provided linens, flatware, bartender, set up, tear down, and caterer so we didn't have to rent anything.

Thats about what we would have paid for similar amenities for our venue if we had chosen a saturday date. We got a pretty decent discount by going with a sunday. Also, the price for the overnight rental for people to stay is a serious steal.

It looks beautiful, and they have your date available.

It really depends on everything else, too. What is your full budget, and how many people are you inviting? Do you want pro hair and makeup, an expensive dress, a DJ, lots of flowers, etc.?

If my full budget was 20K or more for under 100 people, I'd probably do it. I'd use this: http://www.costofwedding.com/index.cfm/action/costest.index to see if this venue can fit in your budget with everything else you want.
