Is this tacky?

Jennifer, on November 24, 2019 at 1:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
We are having a destination wedding and family has come forward to help in every way possible. We want to buy them each a handcrafted duck decoy (it is a thing in our family) and they average about $200 to $300. I thought that I would gift this as a Christmas/wedding thank you.

My reasoning for this is cost and also the fear of traveling with them. Heaven forbid they break!
Do you find it tacky to give a wedding thank you AND christmas present as the same gift if the price point is much higher than we would normally spend? At the time of the wedding, we will be four months out...

I would give them after your wedding and do a separate smaller gift for the holidays.

Since we are also getting married in April, we decided to do no gifts for the holidays this year with the understanding of the wedding in a few months. Maybe you can talk to your family about something like that?

Of course, I am sure they would understand. I think that I just feel bad getting them a small gift for Christmas when they have come forward in the way that they have. Do you think it would still be okay to ship the gift after the wedding versus fly it to the location? They aren't super small so it would take up some space and probably would not be fitted for a carry-on. Again, just worried about breaking during travel.

Yeah I would still give them the gift when back home to avoid getting anything broken!

I think your family will understand, they aren't looking for a gift but are really helping you because they love you. That being said, I understand wanting to show your appreciation.

I am going to give my parents a nice heartfelt card on my wedding day and the gift later (going to make a photo book with wedding pictures).

I like the card idea! And your gift idea will be super awesome! I just want to make sure that showing up with no "phsyical" thank you gift is acceptable. So thank you for your feedback!

I am getting married in April too! I would make a special day after the wedding and go visit all of the family who helped in person to give them their gift! It makes for a fun day of catching up after the big day! Smiley smile

We all will live in four states. Haha I think I solved the dilemma though. Driving instead of flying!
