Is this reasonable makeup/hair pricing? NY/NJ

Soon2BMrsConnelly, on February 1, 2017 at 4:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Hi all! Still trying to fix my avatar, but I have a question. I was quoted for bridal makeup and hair as follows:

Bride: $900 (both)

Bride Trial: $300 (both)

MOB: $350 (just makeup)

I just wanted to know if that is reasonable pricing for the area I am in? Makeup and hair are the two things that I simply know that I want to "splurge" on, and I have enough time to save for it. I also wanted to pay for my mother and FMIL as a thank you for everything. So, opinions? Thank you very much in advance!

Holy hell! Sounds pricey. Was in a friends NY wedding and it was $100 for makeup, $150 for bride. We were on our own for hair but there's no way that adds up to more than $100 to style. Get some more quotes if you can! Bride trial price sounds correct. Why the jump for the actual wedding day?

    That's a lot.

I'd say 100-150 for bride hair, and the same for MU. Maybe more for talent, showing up at 4:00 AM or traveling into NYC with tolls and parking.

Wow that's a lot. I'm in NY and my prices are probably around half of that.

Hell no. The highest quote I got (NYC) was $500 (bride) + $275 for trial. Every other quote I got was about $500 total as opposed to $775 total.

I agree with Jillian C!! That's CRAZY!!! Even for three people. Usually it's $75-$150 for the bride and anyone else will be the lower price. And your trial should be included. Good luck!

@Jillian C. Okay so I'm not overreacting then lol. And that's not even taking into consideration they wanted a 200$ traveling fee (they're located in Hoboken, my wedding will be in Suffolk county, Long Island). While they do amazing work, I'm not sure I can swallow that price tag. I will definitely be getting more quotes

Also, nobody is that ugly that they'll need $900 dollars worth of makeup lol (joking... kind of). And also, I'm sure $900 worth of makeup will make you unrecognizable to your FH/FB.. and he/she most likely loves you just how you are. I'm feeling like $900 is an entire wall of a Mac store on your face. Granted, the time given and effort/talent is what you're paying for.. I just have to see it like this sometimes too. Look elsewhere. This is absurd.

That definitely seems high, I'm also on Long Island (Suffolk) and my MUA is $100 for the trial and $200 the day of, with $25 tacked on for travel. I don't have hair booked yet so I don't have the prices, though I've been hearing hair is typically somewhat less expensive (depending on length of hair & desired style of course)

Way too high. I actually had a celebrity make up artist and she wasn't that expensive. Shop around!

That sounds absolutely crazy. No way in he'll should you have to pay $900 for hair and makeup for one day. And $350 just for makeup for the MOB?!?! Nope, nope. Get other prices.

My wedding is in Miami and I am paying $200 for my day of hair and makeup and it's $100 for everyone else.

OP try contacting Anatalie at The Hair Room. Her team does great work at lower prices than that.

That's super expensive. This coming from an MUA. It really does depend on what MUA it is and there experience but thats like getting up to like celebrity MUA and hair prices.

If you have the money and absolutely love their work go for it but I'm sure you can find someone else that will do a great job for half that price.

@S&J nothing added, that was just base line pricing. I found this person through social media and they seem very reputable and in "high demand" but after looking at all of your responses, it's just not acceptable to be paying that much unless the person really does look like an ogre as @AKcouple mentioned LOL

I was a bridesmaid in an NYC wedding. Hair and makeup were $250 total. Bride was under 500 including both trials and tips
