Is this dj request normal?

Adrian, on January 13, 2023 at 6:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

I spoke with numerous DJs and finally settled on one who I let know I wanted to go with them. I was given a quote during our conversation and was told they'd send over a contract - fast forward almost a week later and I get an email (from someone else) saying they recommend us renting a canopy from them to protect their equipment during the ceremony (which is outside). It doesn't break the bank and idk if I'll get it or not, but is it normal for a DJ to request for you to pay for a canopy to rent from their company to protect their equipment?

In case there's any confusion, the someone else works for the same company

I had just seen a post where the DJ was unwilling to do an outside job because of harm due to the elements. I don't what type of gear that person used -- if perhaps more susceptible to damage. But it could be okay to add that canopy for the DJs benefit.

Is your ceremony space open to air or is it covered?

It's open to air but we were given an option to use a building on-site in case it rains (which we'd end up using if that was the case anyway).

Was just curious if it was normal to ask us to rent a canopy from them to protect their own equipment

Since you have coverage in the rain then it should be fine. I would let them(dj) know that. Also very shocking they don't have their own way to protect their equipment.

If there is a chance of bad weather, I would question why they plan to stay outside instead of having an indoor backup. It’s not your responsibility to pay for this. Find a different dj.

That sounds odd to me. The price of protecting their equipment should be in the overall fee, I would think.
