Is this considered bad luck?

Anonymous, on July 25, 2011 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

A lady I am working for, offered me a wedding dress of her daughters. The wedding dress has been kept air tight to preserve it. It looks nice, but I can't help thinking it is bad luck, because her daughter got a nasty divorce to the man she married in it? Is this just silly of me? Or am I right to feel cautious about taking it?

Its a nice gesture, and I wouldnt think of it as bad luck if you wore it...but your wedding day is one of the biggest days of your life, and your wedding dress is the most important dress you will ever buy, id go with something that has never been worn, and is your special dress and no one elses Smiley smile

I'm not a person that is superstitious. However, even with a gown preserved, it's got to be a bit musty.

And do you really want to wear someone else's gown? I'd suggest she do something valuable with it- like donate it to bridesagainstbreastcancer.org.

However, thank her graciously for her offer! Because that is a very generous offer to make!

How much is your budget??? Will you be able to afford to buy a new gown and 2nd do you like the gown she is offering you? You need to be able to answer both of these questions IMO before you sat yay or nay...

It is very generous of her. If it is your dream dress then take her up on it. But if it just looks nice go for your dream dress! Smiley smile

It's seems no different from a bride that buys a used wedding dress. I don't personally see the harm in it. A professional cleaning (I think) should get out any weird smell. Just be sure to try it on first, if she had it altered to fit her, it may be very expensive to alter it to your body type. Especially if it's to short on you.

I think if you like the dress and would buy the same thing brand new, i would use it. not bad luck a all. but if you would just use it because it's free i would look for something YOU really like.

I think its very sweet of her to offer and if you love the dress I don't see how it could be bad luck there are brides that rent their dress or use a family dress and even those that buy used dresses. I would first make sure that she does not mind if you alter it.. You may want to change the dress drastically to make it what you want (think 27 Dresses) so as long as she's not wanting it back exactly as is.. I'd take her up on it.
