Is this a weird song for a Stepfather/Daughter dance?

Nikkita, on April 26, 2015 at 8:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

I am wracking my brain trying to find the perfect song for my dad & I's dance at my wedding. My dad is technically my stepdad. He's been in my life since I was 9. My "real" father is a deadbeat who is not invited and not considered my father. I found "Stealing Cinderella" by Chuck Wicks. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KHAaRxyuQk)

I know it's from the point of the groom but I was just wondering if anyone thought it was an alright choice.

I have other song choices as well. Such as: "My Little Girl" - Tim McGraw, "He Didn't Have To Be" - Brad Paisley (Which is my favorite, but it's about stepson/stepfather), and "I Loved Her First" - Heartland.

Thank you for any input/suggestions!

I think you should choose whatever song is most meaningful to you. I'm using a weird song for my father daughter dance - more than words by extreme. It's a love song but my dad and I listened to it a lot when I was little.

I'm using Stealing Cinderella with my stepdad and My Little Girl was my second choice so we have similar tastes, although I picked them because they went with my Disney theme (the Tim McGraw song is from the Disney movie Flicka) lol I feel the SAME WAY about He Didn't Have to Be. It expresses exactly what I want to express and I wish there was some song that said the same message but for a stepdad/daughter. I think I Loved Her First probably isn't the best choice because it talks about "The first breath she breathed" which implies him being there when you were born and stuff, but if you don't mind that then you can go for it.

Go with your instincts. I think sometimes people 'over think' the lyrics, rather than just going with the song that is special to them. FH and I may have More Than Words as our first song, but if you really listen to the lyrics it seems like he's saying he wants her to show him that she really loves him, as actions speak louder than words! The song is meaningful to us though.
