Is there anything i should be aware of when looking for a wedding planner?

Elaine, on October 8, 2019 at 11:23 AM Posted in Planning 1 11

My fiance and I are in the process of finalizing our selection for a full wedding planner and of course, we want to make sure that we choose the right one. Is there anything I should be aware of when looking for a wedding planner?

I just compared what they offered, I asked if they had done weddings at the venue I was wanting, their background and experience, and how many assistants they would include.

What Kelly said but also make sure you click with them. You are going to spend a lot of time with this person. I also recommend see if she/he gets your vision. I had a planner quote me everything vintage/rustic when I said my vision was all white and modern so this is important.

I guess what I'm really asking is, are there any scam like activity I should be aware of when it comes to wedding planners?

Look at their past "profile" or portfolio to make sure their style meshes with yours. If you're going to relinquish planning control, make sure you like the aesthetic of the weddings they have planned in the past. If you want a more glam look, don't go with a planner who has a 95% "rustic" portfolio.

I’m sure there is! I’ve seen a few stories on here about them. Usually if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Look up the average price of a full service planner in your area and if you meet with one that’s a lot less than others I would be hesitant. Also ask to see their past weddings they’ve done and you can even ask to talk to past brides.

Definitely look at their prices compared to other well rated planners in the area. Mine was 12k, which is sadly fairly common. She did design boards and has to do 14 months work in 8. But she's been my fairy godmother.

Also! Ask her how many weddings she does a year. You probably don't want someone who does more than 20/year. Figure 2 per month, otherwise she might be too busy to do a really good job. Mine does between 10-15 a year, and the other friendor I know doesn't exceed 10. Same thing with the photographer, actually

A very organized person who either has the same style as you or can pull off exactly what you want because they have great listening skills lol! We picked our wedding planner because she has over 8 years in the wedding catering industry so she's been to a million weddings. So she knows how to stay on schedule, on top of things and others. Even though she's only planned 3 weddings on her own (she's now in business for herself) but she's organized and that was something I needed to feel secure. She brings me back every time I go off the deep end lol. So I said all that to say, pick someone who's:

    *Organized
*Matches your style or can execute it
*Good availability for all 100 billion questions
    *Fun
    *Versatile
*Well connected to other vendors 😁

Misspellings on their web-site. In this day and age of technology, there is no reason for this. Spell check should be automatic.

The person that was referred to me was quite inept.

    She:

couldn’t complete simple copy and paste from one document to another.

didn’t know the proper homonym usage between pen and pin for Boutonnieres.

talked too much. On several occasions I raised my 😳 because something that we had discussed was brought back to me by another party.

Just make sure that you’re dealing with. “Professional”. Not someone that’s doing it as a side job.

I will not recommend her services to anyone if asked.

Keep an eye out for red flags and read through the contract a few times before you hire someone. We hired a partial planner and she showed up late for the first meeting where we discussed the contract because she slept in. She is hard to get in touch with because she doesn't respond to emails or texts for weeks. You want to make sure the planner you hire is on time to meetings and is easy to be in touch with. Imagine if you hire someone who shows up late or you can't get ahold of on the big day!!! FH and I are not having a big wedding anymore, and instead are eloping, so I've sent our planner a message saying that we are letting her go. We'll see when she responds...
