Is there an age limit for being a flower girl?

Kayla, on August 12, 2016 at 8:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Google searches haven't really helped finding the answer to this question.

What age are your flower girls?

And what would you say the oldest a flower girl should be?

I am not having a flower girl, but a while back there was an article about a grandmother being a flower girl. Are you sure your venue will allow the dropping of petals?

I think 8 is pretty much the cut off for most people. But honestly you can do what ever you want, some people have a grandma or aunt do it.

My cousins 7/8 year old stuck her nose up at it and called it a "baby job". But the two 8 year olds that will be my flower girls are super excited and dont feel like that at all. Depends on the girl.

Edit: If she is older I would have her mom or someone (not you) ask her how she would feel to be a flower girl.

It really can be any age and doesn't matter. Is there someone you're thinking you want and are worried she'll think she's too old to do it?

Who says 8 is the cut off for most people? I have never read that.

There is no cut off. You can be 80 and be a flower girl.

    Thanks for the opinions.

I just really want a flower girl really badly but the only cousins that are 8 and below I barely know. And I'm not sure if I want someone (one I haven't even met yet) I barely know walking down at my wedding. But at the same time it could be fun for them. So I may do it anyways.

So I'm trying to decide what to do.

Another part of it is I have like 9 1st/2nd girl cousins( my family 2nd cousins are just as close as first) and I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate them in the wedding. The ones I know range from 11-21.

I've never read that there's an official cut off. Mine will be 9 years old.

I think it's wise to ask the parents first if they are okay with it, regardless of age, but I think @no makes a good point that the parents can tell you ahead of time if they think their daughter will feel like she's too old to be a FG and would be more comfortable with the title of junior BM.

My grandma (82 years young!) is my flower girl and I'm so excited! Whatever special lady in your life you want to offer the role to!

If you want to include your cousins you can have them in your house party! So they can be involved in wedding related events.

Ideally the age seems to be 5-7. They can be completely independent. 1-3 you have to worry they can't do it or can't do it alone. We had 3 FGs, ages 5, 4, & 2. The 2 yr old didn't make it down the aisle & cried whenever we tried to get pictures. After age 8 its if-y if they will want to be the FG. My little brother is 10, but he was 8 when we got engaged he said he'd be the RB if it meant he could be in the wedding, but he thought he was "too big." We agreed (my brother is almost my height). So we titled him an attendant and he rolled the aisle runner down the aisle.

I don't think it matters but usually 8-10 and then you would consider them Junior BM's. Just again, it really doesn't matter, whatever you want.

My neices. One is like 10 and the other 5. They are sisters and I'm letting them do it together because I wanted them incorporated

We are having a set of littles and a set of 9/10 year olds. I wanted to include both sets of siblings so we made it work with two flower girls and a ring bearer and sign holder. The order they walk down will be weird but oh well!

I saw a picture on here in someone's BAM with their two grandmothers as flower girls. I'm gonna go with no on this one.

One of my friends (23) was a flower girl in her cousins wedding this past weekend. Her 26 year old brother was the ring bearer.

I've seen people have their grandma as flower girl. Have who you want to have.
