Is there a time limit for name change after getting married?

Maggie, on January 18, 2010 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Does anyone know if there is a time limit on changing all your info once you get married? I've been married four months and havent changed my last name, i'm in no hurry to do it i was just wondering if there is someone out there saying all that has to be changed if you are planning on changing your last name.

I looked it up and there is no time limit to change your last name. I did it right away but I have talked to other women that waited a whole year to do so. I hope this helps! Congrats on your marriage!!

I don't think there's any legal requirements. However if you need to make any changes to your insurance you have 30 days to do that. Well at least at my job, you have 30 days to make any changes to your health insurance. It also takes about a month around here it seems to process a name change between HR and IT and security and whomever else has to be involved. But if none of those things apply then as long as you're not in a hurry it's no problem.
