Is the bust of my dress too big?

SpringBride23, on March 10, 2019 at 3:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I picked up my dress yesterday and although I had fittings and we spoke about altering the bust (which they said they did), I still feel the bust is too big. There’s only a week until the wedding! Even a sticky bra doesn’t help. Does it seems too big/wide?

This is my dress! I have really large breasts (34DDD) and the top is big on me I think I have a size 12 dress? The cut of the sweetheart is also a little steep. I think they should definitely tighten the top on you but maybe bring it together in the middle? I think that’s what makes it look like there’s a lot of room and it’s too big up top. I’m def not a seamstress though so not sure how that will work.

It doesn't really look too big to me, just looking at the pics. It looks like it's resting against your skin, not gaping or sitting away from your torso. If anything, I do see that the pleats have some dimension & do not sit flat against the dress in that area, so I wonder if that is what might be bothering you. Or I would wonder (because I can't see) if maybe you don't fill out the cups, so if you can feel emptiness inside the cups, it might feel "big". You could try putting some bra cups inside to help fill it out.

My other question in my mind would be, do you feel like the dress is falling down at all? Like do you feel like you need to expand your chest & stomach to hold the dress up, & that if you exhale it will fall down? If you answered "no" to this, you can disregard the rest of this paragraph. If you answered "yes," then the bust MIGHT need to be taken in a little more, but more so it would mean the WAIST & possibly even hip area also need to be taken in a bit. I did alterations in a bridal shop for 5 years (before leaving for a desk job with benefits). I often found that when a dress felt like it was falling down, brides mistook that to mean the bust was too loose due to the myth that your bust holds up the dress. It is actually the curves of the waist and hips on which the dress sits. To test this, put the dress on, grab the top edge with your hands and pull it up to wear you feel like you want it to stay, and while holding it there, have someone pinch any excess fabric they can grab at the sides of the waist/upper hip area. Then you let go while they continue to hold the excess fabric. If the dress feels more comfortable where it's being held, compared to when the person lets go of the sides, then you want it taken in where they were holding it (and tapered from there throughout the side seams wherever needed).

It looks too big I think you'll have to constantly be pulling up the top

It does look not quite right. It’s a different sweetheart top, maybe that’s part of it? I’d have the tailor do the suggestions above on fit and put in cups if it’s not able to be adjusted any other way. You are beautiful tho!

It does look slightly too big. Although it lays flat on your skin it seems to crease right below the bust line which would mean it needs taken in on the sides (not necessarily that the bust itself is too big). I would go back to your seamstress and have her fix it. She should be able to tighten it within your week timeframe.

To me, it looks like the whole dress is a bit too big. I would see if she can fit you in.
