Is Saving Your Bouquet a Big Deal?

PrettyinPink, on April 29, 2018 at 12:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28
It’s almost been a month since I got married. My mother took some of the bouquets home and I took mine and a corsage home. I’m stupid and with my crazy life forgot I put them in a box. I’m cleaning and see them all moldy and brown in a box. My mom just hung up the bouquets so while they are in better conditions...they aren’t great. Is it really a big deal to save/preserve your flowers? I think it’s a lovely idea, but as you can see I probably won’t be able to do anything. I didn’t know if there was such thing as having a duplicate made in silk? Or should I just forget about it if it’s really not a huge deal. My wedding was in SC and I’m in VA and we are moving soon far away with the military. I also have my wedding dress I haven’t touched yet. I feel like I need some advice...

I won't be saving mine. It's not the sort of thing I would display in my home. We will be donating all our flowers to a seniors home, to brighten someone's day, instead of withering and molding somewhere.

That would have been a good idea, but my mother insisted she take the flowers with her. She paid for them so I kind of just let her do what she wanted.

It's an individual decision. Some people won't save their bouquet, others will. It doesn't sound like it means much to you so I wouldn't worry about it.
My bouquet is fake so I'll keep it

I don't think it's a big deal. My sister's got her preserved the lady went MIA. She hasn't seen it since.

I'd get your dress preserved or sell it. Depending on your attachment to it. You can make things later with your dress, you can't really make things with the flowers. They sell kits at David's and other stores. You just send it out.

I'm in VA too. If you're at the beach, please stay safe this weekend and avoid the oceanfront!

Oh girl, I live right near the oceanfront. There’s no avoiding it for me. Thankfully, I work in a nearby town all weekend. My husband on the other hand...lol.

We donated the centerpieces to the Inn where we got married. My MIL took my bouquet after the wedding and hung it to dry out. She made me the shadow box for Christmas and I used some of the other flowers from the bouquet to make the floating picture frames. It was a last minute decision but I think it turned out great.

Yep! I work at the Harris Teeter right there, so I was stuck going too. Luckily I'm not going east on 264 when they shut it down. I live further in. The crazies are definitely out though lol

I wouldn’t preserve it. I mean, what do you even do with it?

I wanted to preserve mine - my friend had her bouquet from her wedding preserved and it’s really beautiful, she has it hanging in her living room. I asked my mother to take care of it for me, since I was leaving for our honeymoon and wouldn’t have time to take it anywhere. Instead she decided to just dry the flowers herself. She made a mess of it, so that didn’t work out...I’m still pretty furious.
As for your flowers, it seems like you don’t feel that strongly about them and it’s too late to preserve them anyway. Maybe put the ones your mom dried in a shadow box? Or just enjoy the pictures of them from the wedding day.

We preserved both my wedding dress and my bouquet - pics here . Bouquet was preserved in a frame with our wedding photo and it is hanging in our bedroom. Saving a bouquet was a big deal for me but everyone is different... It's a personal choice.

I am going to preserve part of mine and put it in a shadow box with some other items, like the invite, some jewelry and whatever else I fancy!

I saved my bouquet from my first wedding for a while and then eventually got tired of looking at it and threw it away.

You can definitely have a replica made with silk flowers, my mom did this for her wedding to my dad.

So I guess it all depends on how important it is to you. No one says you have to keep it. Maybe just keep a few petals and press them into a picture album or something if it's too late to salvage the whole thing.

I took my bouquet apart a couple days after the wedding and scattered them in the water at Pearl Harbor.

I won't be saving mine and unless you're really serious about it, I don't think it's a big deal tbh.
